Hi. Still trying to get my head around modernising playing D&D. We still meet around a table and we always plan to, but I am trying to work out how to show maps and tokens etc for players on the TV screen.
I have a few questions re D&D beyond in general-
1- If I start Maps(recently doing the month free), I pick a pre made campaign that says 'it lets you jump right in', so I pick for example the Island one. Is it just a selection of random maps, you pick one and there is no actual campaign 'ready to jump in to'?
2- I have bought Storm Kings Thunder Digital. Does this mean I can access the updated Fire giants(for example) from the new monster manual or do I need the monster manual? Onyl got the physical MM atm.
3- To play Storm Kings Thunder on maps, do I need to go in to the Campaign tool and create every encounter myself?
I have both, and the links take me to the old statblocks. They should be unlocked for you when you buy the adventure if you need them unlocked (many statblocks are free anyway, so it's usually just a sprinkling that will be unlocked by buying the adventure).
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Like everyone else that has chimed in, I'll try and help as best I can :)
Question 1 Answer: I have not used D&D Beyond's "Maps" feature many times and only tried it out before they had as much content as they do now, so I am not as familiar with it as others. I do know that Davyd put together a good article called D&D Beyond Maps: How to Start Playing Today.
Question 2 Answer: When you buy a Digital version of an Adventure, you gain access to all content within that book, including the monsters that are featured. If you look through Appendix C: Creatures, you should see the monster information within Storm King's Thunder. Additionally, you have access to all of the Monsters in the Free Rules, so if you visit the Free Rules page and scroll down, you will see a good listing under the Monsters section.
Question 3 Answer: As i stated in answer 1, I am not too familiar with the current version of Maps, but the 'How to Start Playing' article I linked has a section called Combat Encounters on Maps to help you out.
Outside of those answers, if you are playing in-person and are looking for something a bit more detailed, has live interaction with actual Minis (fog of war), and has animated Map features, check out Arkenforgeas they are doing some REALLY amazing things with their Mapping Software.
I hope all of this helps :)
Cheers!

Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.

Map is super rudimentary, you have to place all the monsters yourself on the map.
Ah thought so, wondered if I was doing something wrong.
When you open maps and it offers you the 'pre made campaigns', it makes it sound like they are all there ready for you to try/play.
Is there another system available to do a similar thing?
Foundry is the best today.
