Hi all - new to the Eberron setting, but long-time D&D player/fan. I have the Eberron: Forge of the Artificer on pre-order ready to go, but reading some articles about it, it seems to suggest that this book is an expansion for the original Eberron book. Which got me a little worried - do I need to get the older book in order for the new one to work? Or is the new one a standalone version of the expansion itself?
Any help to alleviate my concern (and impending empty wallet) is appreciated! Thanks! :-)
It's not out yet so this is just informed guess work but I suspect based on page count the new book will mostly be a brief over view and updated rules rather than an indepth book. For that you're probably looking at Rising From The Last War which is the most recent campaign setting book and honestly one of the best campaign setting books they've released for 5th edition. Having said that unlike a lot of settings Eberron hasn't had any lore resets or jumped forward a century as each new D&D edition started so the old 3e books are still just as relevant so you might save yourself some money buying the pdfs for them on DM's Guild rather than buying the new book (there's also a lot more of the 3e books looking in more detail at specific things so they're useful if you want more on a specific city or country)
Ahh ok. I might pick up the other Eberron book just for the source material perhaps then. No slight intended on the 3.5e books (as up until recently we have always played that) but we are starting afresh in the new 2024 / 5e format going forward. :-) Thank you for the help!
