As the title says, I would love an official Gunslinger class once Psion officially releases.
Although I came back for 5e because of the 2024 rules, I am one of those people who love mixing guns with their fantasy games. And yes I am an avid Pathfinder 2e fan but and this why I am hoping in the future we get an actual Gunslinger class as well as sub classes for every other class that can utilize guns beyond just them being weapons. In Pathfinder 2e one of my favorite classes is the Remastered Gunslinger and is one of the few martial classes I am willing to play since I am a Spellcaster girlie.
Perhaps another Magic the Gathering cross-over with Thunder Junction lore if the D&D universe doesn't have an actual Wild West place.
The Gunslinger could have 4 subclasses to start with. Perhaps they could be Sniper, Spellshot, Duelist, and Soldier?
Sniper could be your long range Gunslinger with inspiration from the Assassin sub class. Perhaps their special niche could be bringing back Called Shots if it hasn't come back yet. My immediate thought goes to the Called Shot variant rule (?) in Pathfinder 1e Ultimate Combat. Perhaps when they get a critical hit, they can apply a debuff to the enemy.
Spellshot could fused magic with special ammunition. I am imagining how Kaze from the Final Fantasy Unlimited anime used special bullets to summon so perhaps that could be inspiration? Maybe instead of spell casting they gain a Magic Bullet resource that can mimic certain effects of spells. Inferno Bullet instead of Fireball for instance is my first thought.
Duelist could be the type of Gunslinger that uses pistols but is quicker than your average class but is focused on being up close. Maybe as long as they don't where armor they can add their Charisma bonus to AC and can opt to use their Charisma for the attack roll if they want to pull off a Daring Deed that could be similar to Bardic Inspiration but they have to land the hit and declare before hand they are doing a Daring Deed. And they can choose one of three options for what effect to apply.
Soldier could be the "tank" Gunslinger subclass. Perhaps they are based around heavy firearms like the Blunderbuss but can have a special effect called scatter which could operate like a range cleave ability but is a limited resource. Maybe they could also have some aura support to give off an air or confidence since they are professionally trained to use firearms.
I don't know if the design team looks over these posts or if this is an inappropriate post but I figured I get this idea out there because I am really excited for the Psion class. It is always exciting to see a new class being designed especially from someone who considers themselves as a TTRPG Scholar. Though I do apologize if this was an inappropriate post.
I can't see anything with guns being a core element of the game. Yeah the musket is in the equipment section, but that just convenience for those rare times there is a gun totting fella or maybe a time warp. D&D is basically a quasi-medieval game
Yeah, I'd take them porting in a 3PP for it as a sign that they felt it wasn't something they want to pursue on their own. Plus the identity is fairly limited since most guns are just another kind of loading ranged weapon in this game.
It would be rare a WotC gunslinger class when there is one by a 3PP in D&DB.
The strategy for 5e is a new class should be "expansion-friendly", this means new crunch in later sourcebooks should be useful for that new class but also the rest.
For example let's imagine WotC wanted to update the martial adepts (crusader, swordsage and warblade) from 3.5 Tome of Battle. Then they have to add a special magic item, the "martial script". After reading and studying a martial script the PC could activate the technique, and during one encounter this could be using this technique (with the necessary action to reload). Or incarnum soulmelds could be used by all the class thanks essencia-jewels (working like a pool of points of essence) and special spell allowing until the end of one encounter the casting of incarnum soulmelds. Some times I tried to imagine a runecaster whose runes worked like incarnum soulmelds.
If WotC wanted to create a new class this could be something like a monster-trainer, or an update of the avenger, a divine+stealth class focused into monster-hunt, not only undead and fiends. Other class could be about a dracolyte, working like an arcane fighter, the update of the duskblade but dragon-themed.
My idea for a witch is a artificer+primal caster hybrid. The witch could cast spontaneous primal magic like a sorcerer but she could create infusions with arcane magic like an artificer.
The shaman could be an interesting concept, a primal spellcaster recycling some ideas from the 3.5 vestige binder class from 3.5 Tome of Magic.

I could see it more as a fighter, or maybe ranger, subclass. They don’t tend to build an entire class around using a single weapon.

There's already a 3rd party Gunslinger Class in Valda's Book here in Beyond.
For DnD it would be rare to do it, but one never knows.
