So, just so I'm clear... there's no way for me to go to my digital copy of Princes of the Apocalypse in D&D Beyond and find all instances of "Druid" or "Emerald Enclave"?
Am I right that this most basic feature of the digital era is not available? I apologize if I'm wrong and I'm overreacting. Because I'm definitely overreacting right now and I'm trying to keep it contained and not be a jerk about it. I know instances of the word will come up when I "Search Everything", but that isn't really helpful to me. If this feature doesn't exist; is it really so low on the list of user priorities that D&D Beyond isn't harassed about it daily?
Edit: I should add, I'm aware that one can use the browser's "find in page" utility, and search chapter by chapter. Perhaps because of this, people don't find it necessary to have searching individual sources as an actual feature of the site. If one could load all the chapters at once, then this would do the job.
Perfect! Thanks... I am running Curse of Strahd, and for instance wanted to search the word death to see references to what happens if a player dies in various parts of the adventure.... :)
A partial browser work-around is to select a chapter in your source and then search the page. In other words, select "Sources" from the navigation bar, then "Ghosts of Saltmarsh", then "Ch 2: The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh". Next, use <ctrl>--F to pull up the browser's search bar and type in what you need to find (e.g., "bag of holding", or "scout"). Then 'next' arrow through the page to find what you need. This is only useful when you already know which chapter to target, but it can help answer some easy questions like "how many 'bandit' NPCs are in the lair".
I would like to be able to use my laptop for information when running and prepping a game. I went to search for the random encounter table in Princes of the Apocalypse and was flooded with a plethora of hits on "compendium" I don't own.
When will there be a feature that allows me to search text within the entirety of a specific source book while using the browser?
Similar request: I'm trying to look up how many times "Greater Resurrection" appears in Curse of Strahd text (as an example). I love the search engine, in general, but being able to search through only one text would be fantastic.
I know the DMG contains stats for a Ballista. But that book is in the other room.
I search dndbeyond for Ballista, and narrow the results to "Compendium". The DMG entry for Ballista *is* there, bur it's 24th in the list, below 23 other entries that are just mentions of ballistae in adventures or sourcebooks (most of which I don't own, but even the ones I do don't have any useful information on them).
A search box when you're *in* a specifc book would be my preference, but being able to narrow further than "compendium" on the search results page, either breaking out sourcebooks from adventures, or better yet a checkbox to hide results from sources I don't have access to, would be helpful.
Here we are YEARS later and this feature is STILL not available. I'm just looking for basic "light" rules in the DMG and I have to manually look through it like it's a hardcopy.
And before a mod claims I'm "necroposting"... no, I'm not. This feature was asked for literally years ago and ignored. I'm reminding we still need it.
A consolidated list would be very helpful to have. When looking up spells show us ALL the spells/classes/backgrounds that are available in DND Beyond. If I have not purchased said spell on the list then it can state so and maybe entice me to purchase the content it is from.
I have wished for the ability to search the Sourcebooks so many times as you describe.
I understand why it doesn't (assuming file size), but even if we could open the entire source book we wanted to search like a PDF, then we can just use the 'Find' option to find text that we are looking for and get us close to the desired info.
Maybe someday :)
Cheers!

The mobile app lets you search inside of specific books. For example, if you open up the DMG in the app and search for "Feywild", you'll see mentions of it in the Planes chapter, as a Dungeon location, and in the DMG Eladrin entry.
If the app can do it that means they are intentionally not letting us do it on a computer - probably because some market group showed it would increase sales. :(

Or.... the architecture of the app version of the site is different than the browser version?
Yeh still not able to search, and what little searching I seem to be able do seem to let me click on the relevant book only for it to take me to the purchase page not the the actual page of the book. And I already own the book so why does it want me to purchase again?

If you install the D&D Beyond Application on your phone. You can search within a book.

Please implement this feature. I've spent a lot of money on these books and I'd like to search through them.

Adding to this thread because I also want this feature on Beyond. Filter/limit search results by source book.
The lack of features like this is what drives demand for PDFs of the books.
