Are there any items which make unarmed combat more effective? I haven't found any so far, are there any in the expansions? I'd prefer something non-magical if that exists. If not i'll accept links to homebrew items.
Nothing non-magical in 5e yet from any of the official books. Previous editions had non-magical items like the ward cestus, but they haven't been formatted over. Though not an item, the Tavern Brawler feat will make your unarmed strikes do d4 damage instead of 1.
As to your homebrew link request, it might not be possible to homebrew, at least not that I can see. You would need to make an item that has a modifier of "set" and then "unarmed damage die", where you can change the "1" to "d4". Looks like that can be done with a feat, but not an item. (I tried with wonderous and weapon types and it's not coming up as an option.)
Homebrew some brass knuckles, a plated guantlet, a punch dagger, etc.
One of my players rolled a barbarian and when we were creating him, the player said he wanted the barbarian to drop his weapon and beat enemies to a pulp with his bare fists during Frenzied rages but not lose out on too much dps.
I tried a bunch of different creative ways to give him a power spike and almost all of them ended up ******* busted because of how he could combine them with reckless attacks and other barbarian skills, and the way it finally ended up working was just giving one extra unarmed attack, and a free additional one every time he crit.
Expirement and play test with different options, and sometimes even if you really WANT to create a special snowflake Homebrew item the best solution is just to tweak the currently existing system ever so slightly.
Unarmed Fighter Rune Knight with Gloves of Soul Catching and Belt of Storm Giant Strength. Level 20 build. Items require some work retrieving. Whole subquest line possibly.
1d4 to grappled target at start of your turn; 1d8+9 bludgeoning per hit; 2d10 force per hit from gloves; 1d10 from Giants Might per round; 2d6 fire damage per round if Fire Rune is used and succeeds/maintains.
[Just found Eldritch Claw Tattoo. +1 attack and damage rolls; 1/day, 1 minute: +1d6 force damage per hit, 15 foot reach.]
4(1d8+10+2d10+1d6)+2d6+1d4+1d10
Then action surge for an additional 4(1d8+10+2d10+1d6).

I'm doing a barbarian/druid. Could you share some of these ideas that you had? It would help me figure out something for my character
i might be a tad late but the unarmed fighting style gives you d8s if you arnt using anything else in your hands

Correct my math if I missed something.
You can't use the fire rune as it requires making an attack with a weapon
There is a new magic item from the Book Of Many Things called Wraps of Unarmed Prowess that adds bonuses to your unarmed strikes.
