So I am still getting into the groove of all this and random question. The lucky feat for 5E. How would you determine if your character should have this feat. Not so much for the mechanics for what it is used for, but more of. Why would your character "be lucky'. As a person who's rolls tend toward the lower side, This feat tends to go with any character I make, But now that I know most of the basics. I wanna push more towards making a character more in detail and not just give it to them cause I as the creator need it. So the question is. Why would you feel your character would have that "natural" luck?
I find extremely hard to really find a "why" to something as abstract as "luck". Luck just happens, you do not need a specific background/backstory reason for it, there are no "tricks" to be lucky, you either are or are not.
If you REALLY want to put a reason for it in the story of your character, I guess there would be any number of possibilities:
Born under a certain star of good omen
Accidental "victim" of a weird magical event in young age
Blessed by the gods
Long lineage of extremely fortunate people
In possession of something that grants extreme luck (or so they believe)
Oh those are some really interesting scenarios that make a lot of sense. Cause it is easy to give your character lucky and not really question it at all. I found it, as of late, to be a lot of fun to add in those tiny aspect to a character. Character swings and misses ( hit for 9 against AC), lucky kicks in and hits the character on the back swing from stumbling the character hits critical due to the lucky roll. Small things like that. And putting something like those scenarios really set it up for something like that to happen. Thank you :)
Accidentally ate a 4 leaf clover in a salad, grandfather was a leprechaun, lucky rabbit foot suppository. You can just make anything the reason really.
A little bit of admiration for the creativity on that one lol. Very brave leprechaun that mated with a very cute bugbear. Time less XD. DId you rob a merchant with a sadistic sense of human and they werent paying attening to what they were giving you for a punishment?
Lucky can be interpreted as direct influence from a divine or powerful being. Maybe your Warlock patron decided to help you out on that attack, or your Cleric's God answered your prayer. Maybe you have a mysterious spirit or powerful entity that has taken a shine to you and your friends and tries to nudge fate in your favor.
Or maybe you're a drunken master Monk who fights like Mr. Magoo, accidentally falling into success!

Arguably, anyone who grows up to be an adventurer and not die in the first few levels could be said to be a "lucky" individual.
That is very true, But that can be based on skill or luck. Or lucky skill or even meta gaming lol.

I mean, you can come up with anything, really...
Born in Italy, moved a bunch, living in Spain, my heart always belonged to Roleplaying Games
