I pondered the thought of how Toril and our Earth are in a way the same planet but on alternate Material Planes. There are gates in Toril that interlink the two very different worlds, so why not go for a spin at an isekai campaign?
I found this background called Displaced; check it out on the link below:
In addition, I thought about giving Displaced characters a unique boon granted to them; one idea being that they are their own spellcasting focus and will only ever need Material components for spells that have a cost to that component (i.e. a 50 GP diamond). I myself prefer boons that give you some advantage, but aren’t ultimately game-breaking either.
I’m free to discussion for this, and am whole-heartedly open to your thoughts, ideas, and opinions.
P.S. Taking a bit from isekai light novels, manga, and anime is A-okay ;)
you could have the phone that they get in the Equipment to be a spell focus/spellbook. I would not worry about the charge on the phone and just rule that after an 8hr rest the phone draws in enough magic to recharge it so that the player can use it.
As for the cheats, the boons could work since they can be anything really as those are just examples. Since a typical boon mimics the properties of a wondrous item you have a wide selection to choose from.
For the skills of the Displaced, I disagree with stopping the player from picking History and Religion. I myself know a lot about Faerun since it is one of my favorite settings and have been running it off and on for 20+ years. So maybe they should gain those skills a bonus if the player has done much with the campaign setting prior to getting Isakaied to Faerun.
Or have the character start with a book on the subject in their inventory that they can try to consult when they make the relevant skill check. Heck, it could function as using a search engine on their smartphone.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
