I make characters who're supposed to be good at something (e.g. current Paladin, fisherman background, can't navigate a small river with a small boat to save his life despite a +5 modifier) and my luck makes me despise the character very quickly.
My solution: I need a character who does not need to rely on luck to be successful! Any suggestions?
My dice rolling is abysmal.

A swashbuckler rogue. Though luck will always be a factor, they can be ridiculous despite it.
Play rogue. Once they get to level 11, they stop being able to roll below 10 (plus mods). You can also take lucky feat and be halfling to reroll 1s.
