No they do not. They make ZERO money on your purchase of a physical book from someone else.
Unless that physical product has a code in it because of a deal they worked out with WotC before the product released, like with essentials kit. And DDB's profit will already be factored into the cost of the product. I just want to cover bases.
It is sealed so people do not steal the code and submit it.
I know why. I'm just listing reasons physical products don't unlock digital equivalents. So far we have;
Takes planning and cooperation between DDB and WotC before product release.
Product price increases because more companies need to profit per sale, and print cost slightly increases.
Product will be sealed to protect code, so you can't look at contents to see if you are interested.
There will also be obvious new problems with resale which hasn't been mentioned.
In the end, it mostly only serves to discourage physical sales unless digital prices were also increased to match increased physical prices. So it only serves to help customers that specifically want both physical and digital copies, but hurts customers that only want one or the other (which is probably the majority).

The copy you purchase with a code would be sealed when you purchased the book.
Also that. So no browse before you buy.
