In my game, everyone got a small minor starting feat (homebrewed) that fit their characters/stories. I do not see a way to give their characters the feat without them picking it at as one of their ASI/Feat levels, is there an option I am missing or is this not possible?
I want to be able to add feats as well ... at first level (all characters get one at first level) and as a special rewards in the campaign. Both are homebrew for our campaigns.
Until this is allowed I thought to create non attuned magic items. However when building a magic item with feats it requires a modifier subtype where none can be dropped down. Advanced search to find an item that does this as template allows to search for feats and has the modifier subtype but none exist.
I've done this by just making a homebrew wondrous item called [FEAT] <feat name>. I add in all of the relevant stat adjustments (after you create the item initially you have more options) and then add it to the character.

This is the simplest way I have found to do this as well. Do not select “Feat” as the modifier, instead add modifiers that the feat provides (e.g., STR +1, +1 AC when Dual Wielding, etc) and the use the description for everything else.
Another tip for everyone is to set it to have charges so that it shows up in the Limited Use area. This will make it easier to find and reference for the players and the DM.
The simplest way I found is to create a copy of one existing feat and, after renaming it, adding to it the desired features You would like to provide to your character.
This works better for characters that start with at least one feat (i.e. Variant Human).
I haven't considered the Magic Item option since it's too complex to add feat features to an item...
Anyway, the simplest way would be to allow us a better control of our characters and campaigns, simply letting us add whatever we like to our player characters.

I always like the idea of giving my players one non-combat feat... I feel like feats really do help flesh out some of the characters abilities and if it's not breaking the game then I say why not? lol

All right, but is it possible to add extra feats? The rulebook states that sometimes characters can be awarded feats instead of other rewards. I'm trying to do that.

Go on the character sheet, section "Features and Feats", then Feats. Click on Manage Feats. You can add any feats you like.

You say we can add any feats we like. My question is, can a character have multiple feats at the same time? For example, at level 1 they choose a feat, then at level 4 when they can improve their ability score or choose a feat, is that feat added to what they have(now having 2) or does it replace the other one? Basically, can they have more than one feat active at a time?

There is no limit on the number of feats a character can have.

Hi filcat, and sorry for necroposting.
I have a first level deep gnome rogue, and I was given a choice of a free feat by my DM. The thing is, I can only see two feats in Manage Feats - Svirfneblin Magic and Grappler, the latter one is marked as Unavailable (it requires bigger STR score than I have). And the former one is legacy anyway. For clarity - I would like to add Observant. Are you sure there is a way to do that?
Manage Feats settings also has a Use Feat Prerequisites setting, but disabling it changes nothing, even Grappler stays Unavailable.

Yes now it is not possible to add feats outside those allow by the official rules. In the future, it is something that will be addressed.
Alright, thank you for the response!
You could probably create a magic item homebrew which mimics the effects of the feat in the interim?

Is this a bug?
Just want to bump this. What is the workflow for creating an item that grants a bonus feat? Thanks!
Curious about this question as well

I want this as well for certain racial feats that should be granted at first level like the deep gnome feat.

Most of the feats are not in the free materiel for character building. You need to:
