I thought that the Slug takes the damage. If it falls to zero then it dies and the body reverts to its original form. At that point it would become a pile of mummy dust. In slug form it doesn't have immunity to anything.
However, I recommend the advice from Jacked-goblin. Let the players enjoy their win.
As per RAW, when your polymorphed form takes more damage than it has hit points any excess damage goes to your original form. So if the slug had 1 hit point all other damage would go to the mummy which is immune to bludgeoning damage so it wouldn't care. But as many of us have pointed out, this was a very clever solution that should be rewarded and getting rid of a Mummy Lord for even a short while is a great victory under the circumstances.

To be fair, it should not matter that much if it got up immediately at the bottom of the cliff or not. It would have been at the bottom of a cliff hours or even days from getting back on the trail of the party.... still would be a win either way....
Thanks Lost W-F. I just didn't remember the interpretation of the rules for Polymorph.
So the slug "dies" and the remaining bludgeoning damage goes to the immune Mummy Lord.
It seems the party had an opportunity to do substantially more damage to the Mummy Lord. But I struggle to see how they could have done much more. Could they engineer it so the slug catches on fire upon impact? Put a bottle of alchemists fire on a stick with an empty bottle holding the slug also tied to the stick ... then toss that off the cliff? Slams into the ground, both bottles break open, slug dies, and Mummy Lord also suffers the fire? ... and he is a long ways away and out of his lair. Kinda ruins his whole day.

Exactly my point.
Yeah, let's be clear that beating an encounter and getting the XP for it (or counting it as a milestone) does not hinge on killing it.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
