My adventures just arrived at a dragon sanctuary that sells and trades dragons in the winter. It is currently winter in the campaign, and they’re wondering if they can purchase a dragon as a pet and try to ‘train’ it. My adventurers are wondering what silver wyrmling, silver young, silver adult, and silver ancient dragons would cost. They’re also wondering what gold wyrmling, gold young, gold adult, and gold ancient dragons would cost. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Dragons are sentient creatures, and only wyrmlings can't speak common. So I a. don't see this going well, in the long run, but b. if you do decide to go with it (instead of revealing it to be a front for dragon pirates or something) I would expect egregiously expensive due to the costs a sanctuary would incur to feed and house dragons in a manner that would keep them healthy and happy. Also the price could get even steeper if dragons are exceedingly rare. We nearly ruined the entire economy in our campaign when we realized we had total control of the supply of dragon parts to the magical and academic community.
Okay thanks. That’s what I thought, maybe I’lol kill off the seller, because he doesn’t really matter, and say if you try to go in, there will be hundreds of hungry dragon. :)
My first question is what do the dragons think about all of this? Even as wyrmlings, most dragons are smarter and all of them are stronger than the average human. Why would they be putting up with this treatment?

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Those aren't dragons, there's almost nothing in D&D which could capture and breed dragons. Not only are dragons universally superior to pretty much any PC, they have their own gods. The last time a civilization cast a spell to drive dragons crazy and kill themselves, the dragons prayed to their gods and summoned a second Tearfall.
A dragon kin sanctuary would make some sense, Drakes, Wyverns and the like are a lot more approachable, yet even those are dangerous.
In the end it's your campaign though, so you can change dragons into whatever you like. If your using the Faerun lore or the Monster Manual start blocks though, white dragons are the only ones that accept masters, and anything stronger than a young dragon is outside of the scope of PCs power, simply having a young white dragon is like adding a level 9 character to the party.
Instead of selling dragons, why not sell pseudo-dragons, drakes, wyverns or other dragon-adjacent beings? Or some other dracanoid knock off? Home brew your own?
Regular dragons really can't work without a lot of problems and revisions, but there's plenty of dragon-like things that could fit the bill and actually work well from a seller.
Yes, there is an artifact, it is in the middle of the sanctuary, and the campaign is about the sanctuary and a dragon uprising. They have to get the artifact to be able to stop the uprising, and they were wondering if they could get dragons to aid them, and I was hesitant, because that could break the game. I was going to maybe give them a wyrmling, but that just didn’t seem right. I said the best thing they could purchase was a warhorse, from the PHB, so they obliged.
Yes, there are also some of my home brew dragons in the sanctuary that they could befriend, but they are extremely hard to get to, and in order to keep them, you have to do some ‘tasks’ for it, almost suicide.
First off, even the dumbest of dragon wyrmlings would be sentient enough to dislike it. Second off, any dragon would cost a fortune, and I don't even know they want to know the price of ancient dragons, there are so little of them that this would never happen. (Unless your world has them more common)

You can sell them full plate barding for the horses.

Unless dragons work differently in your game world and aren't sentient, but in that case we can't help you because we'd need to know the specifics of your game world, which if you had, you wouldn't need to ask us.

That's slavery. A dragon is also definitely not something I would give to my players. Maybe wyverns and wyrmlings.
I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)

Yea your talking Slavery here. I think there would be a huge upraising of dragons.
Ancient Silver dragon held in slavery. I think it would give you issues.
