[LFP][Online][D&D][5e][Discord][Roll20][West Marches] Looking for More Players: Active D&D 5e West-Marches server starting a new campaign
Key Points…
Kicking off a new campaign with an existing DM team/players and looking for 5-10 more players to join in the fun.
D&D 5e, Online, Roll20, Discord (voice, no video), Reddit.
Multi-DM persistent world (West Marches style).
All our current players are NA, but a few DMs enjoy running weekend afternoon games that could work well for EU timezone folks. Game sessions run approximately 4-5 hours.
You do not need to commit to playing every week. The West Marches format allows for drop-in play.
18+ players only. PG-13 content only.
Our community ranges from 20+ year veterans to players for whom this was their very first game. New to D&D? No problem! We love new players and would be thrilled to help you learn the ropes.
Game sessions tend to be more combat/exploration focused, with __very__ active text RP in the discord server during downtime.
A Highly customized take on a Fifth Edition E-6 system.
Hello Everyone. I'm one of the DMs over at the Wayfarer Inn community. We run a West Marches style D&D Fifth Edition campaign over Discord, Reddit, and Roll20. We have had a steady group of 15-35 players and 6 DMs that run multiple games a week, depending on scheduling. We’ve been running the game for almost four years and are now rebooting for our fourth campaign. It’s the perfect time to add some new players.
You are one of a number of new members of The Wayfaring Guild, whose no good previous Guildmaster took out a loan against all the Guild’s wealth… then made off with both it and the majority of the goods the guild had left to its name. The Imperial bank which financed the loan has sent along a number of auditors to measure the guild’s value and progress, and to decide whether it’s best to simply liquidate the guild’s current assets and send it into the wind.
It has been 130 years since the world regained the use of magic, after 275 years of the world being cut from it in something known to historians as The Arcanus Incident. It has affected the world in a number of different ways, chief of which has to do with the limitations of power the various different heroes throughout the realm can acquire.
We have honed a homebrew E-6 system over the past year and a half, so characters will start at level 2 and stop at 6, with the ability to continue to improve their characters in other ways after that. Milestone leveling rather than XP. 14 Weeks of play will get a character to 6th level, and there is more custom progression after that.
About the E-6 System.
An introduction to E-6 and the reasoning behind it:
In December of 2020, the DM team decided to shake things up and homebrew an entire system to port this idea from 3.5e DnD and move it into 5e. We built upon the bones of many ideas throughout the entirety of the online DnD community, and have come up with something that is entirely our own but anyone who has familiarity with 5th edition should be able to slip into with relative ease.
That being said, our system encompasses enough by this point to practically be its own sourcebook and it can be intimidating. However there’s a very friendly DM Team, and community who loves to help and support one another if questions crop up and need explanation.
We use milestone leveling, the level you are equates to the number of games you need to go on (limit of 1 milestone per week) to get to the next level. So a 2nd level character would need 2 games, 3rd would need 3, 4 for 4…until you reach the level cap at 6th level. From that point on, every 3 games played will earn your character a Veteran point, or VP and give them access to taking what is known in our system as Talents. For those veteran players, Talents are much the equivalent of Feats in Pathfinder 1st Ed, or Feats in 3.5 edition. These small bumps in power keep a character growing without making them an overpowered juggernaut who wouldn’t be seen adventuring with a lowly new member of the Guild.
What applications are used?
We use a series of platforms to organize and run games.
- The main hub is most definitely our Discord server. This is the home of almost all player conversation, both about the game and just social chatter. This is also the home of our out-of-game RP. It's a fantastic place to find out what is happening in the world and get to know your fellow players - both in character and out. We also run our in-game voice chat through this discord server. Note: We are migrating from the use of Reddit for this Campaign, but we still vet new players through Reddit.
- Secondly is our Reddit subforum. This is where the weekly megathread (which contains news from the DM team, updates on what we are working on, requests for commentary on various proposals, responses to player questions and suggestions, the weekly weather report for the game, new rulings, and other info) is posted.
- Also important is Roll20. This is the virtual tabletop where games are hosted and run.
- Finally, Google Calendar is where the DM team posts their availability for players looking to book games.
Player responsibilities
A microphone/headset and the ability to use Discord, Roll20, and Reddit, as well as an internet connection that can support voice chat.
Abide by our Code of Conduct (PG-13 content only and other rules regarding harassment, discrimination, etc. Basically boils down to 'don't be a jerk'.)
Willingness to work with the DMs to create characters that fit within the campaign setting.
Interested?
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, fantastic! I invite you to check out our subreddit, or send us a private message. We’ll be happy to answer your questions.
Applications will close at noon EST on June 26th. We will review them and reply by July 1st (very possibly sooner than that). We expect new games to start as of July 11th. Our current community will have had a few weeks of character Text RP prior to new players joining the server, but to preserve interest we’re looking to get people in, with their characters created, during the weeks games start.
