Who Am I?
Hello I’m Josh. I’ve been playing for 3+ years and found that I love running games and providing a memorable experience for players. I love taking the seeds of ideas from everyone’s characters and mixing them with my own to make a whole world. I have been running at least 2 games for some time, while also working 6 days a week. I recently took a break from my previous career and would like to give running games full time a shot. My aim is 1, keep fed with the lights on gotta be honest there, and 2 to see how I can grow and improve as a story teller and game master when I am able to put my full attention to it.
You can message me on D&D Beyond, I'm also on discord at harmless_wizard (yes I joined discord at roughly the same time I joined here for dnd purposes)
Systems.
I plan to use DND beyond to run character sheets and can share my library so everyone can use character options. (I will admit to being a homebrew addict so plenty of alternative options) I use discord for chat, voice calls to host the game. I am currently using owlbear rodeo for maps so everyone can control their tokens. That being said I do plan to experiment with other systems now I am doing this full time. Game mechanics I am comfortable with 2014 and 2024 as well as mixing in other mechanics and systems depending on suitability.
Types of Game
Module – I have run several games via module and found that they have a lot of potential. I adjust them to players and the characters they bring so no module game is the same as any other. But the structure to work from can be very helpful. It also adds a lore and a story to interpret and present that is distinct and has been enjoyed by millions of people by this point. I have some modules, however If someone wants to play a specific one that I don’t have, I am more than happy to get it. I would spend a few weeks reading and considering it before running with that group.
Custom – My main experience is running home made custom games. Where I take your characters, put them in a setting and grow the story from there. As players discover who their characters are and the world adapts and grows around them. I have my own setting I have been growing for 3 years, however I have also played in the forgotten realms. And would love to run a game in established worlds like Exandria and others. This type of DND is perfect if you want to see where a story can go. I charge a little more for custom game than module because while I have to buy a module, a custom game takes understandably more time to prepare as I’m doing it all myself.
One Shot or Trial Games – Not all games are epic yearlong things, sometimes you just want to have fun. Challenge a friend to pvp. Got a character build you want to test. Maybe I want to trial a mission before presenting it to my players, so invite you in to BREAK IT, and see what I need to correct. Really anything can be done here.
All session 0s are no cost.
Why Pay for a game?
There are many good people on here who can provide a game for free. But they also have lots of things going on because this is a hobby not a job. If you pay for a game that person should (imo) be committed to providing a good experience and type of game you want to spend your time on.
I haven’t charged for games prior to making this post, but as I said above I would like to make this my job if I can. If it doesn’t work out at least I tried. Stories are a true passion of mine and I have been moved by the stories my players and I have been able to write together. Memories I hope to carry forever. Why wouldn’t I want a job that lets me do this?
If you are interested.
I plan to run 6-8 games a week, the times being approximately 12pm and 7pm on any day. I am also considering running games 12am UK time to be more accessible to other timezones. There is definitely wiggle room here. So if you are interested please message me or reply to this post and we can chat from there and see what works for everyone. Please let me know all the times that would work for you so I can coordinate groups by what times are best for people and what type of games they want.
I can then chat with you or send you a quick questionnaire to let me see what type of game you are interested in and comfortable with. And we can go from there.
Safe Table.
While I accept all types of players and game types. I want people to feel safe at my table to relax to get into their characters and enjoy the game. I will not tolerate abuse of myself or another plater. If someone has made you uncomfortable please come to me and I will speak with all parties to see if the issue can be resolved, I aim to be objective and fair in this. When It comes to sexual themes this is generally a SFW table unless clearly expressed otherwise. Essentially fade to black. If you want a full NSFW game I would charge more for that.
Although fair warning, bad jokes will be made, no one is safe from psychic damage.
Current potential game times. All with some movement earlier or later if it fits around people's schedules.

Evening 19 BST or GMT / 20 CET / 14 EST

Homebrew Setting Ideas Not limited to but some that are good to go.
What have we done? - Sometime you cause events to spiral out of control, and what seemed like a harmless opportunity caused disaster to strike. This campaign would start with characters setting events in motion, then having to clean up the mess they were responsible for triggering.
Cyber-Magic - So there are laser guns in dnd. Did you know that? What about a futuristic magic setting where technology has developed in a world with magic. Monsters are still there but now mages and sharpshooters take on a new flavour.
Adventurers Guild - Everyone starts somewhere, and with the many different dangers out there some times you need a specialist. An adventurer. The guild takes people and nurtures their talents letting them develop into the bad asses inside. Meanwhile new threats take root and old threats seek to reemerge. (I have made this story and setting and ran it to completion before, so now have the big picture can refine it to a new audience)
Whats your Level? - So, everyone levels up in DND. What if that was something people were aware of. The idea of this is that when people push themselves they level up, gaining new powers and able to protect the world or achieve other more personal goals. But everyone has a max level. But until you reach it you don't know what it is. Level 11s feel superior over level 4s who cant stand up to them. But tread lightly when a rare level 20 arrives. I feel this would add an interesting role play opportunity to the game.
Modules A brief description of some of the modules available.
Dragon of Icespire Peak - This is a classic level 1-7 starter. If you haven't played before this is an excellent introduction, and covers many of the most popular beats from the hobby.
Storm Lord's Wrath - Sleeping Dragon's Wake - Divine Contention - This set of 3 modules follows on from Dragon of Icespire Peak (new characters optional) and focuses on a developing town caught in a deadly power struggle with your band of adventurers there to tip the scales.
Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep - Level 1-13+ adventure where you explore exandria and wildemount chasing a mysterious figure, competing with a rival group.
Testimonial! I've had the pleasure of playing in 2 of Josh's long term campaigns, the first a few years ago as a newer player and Josh was patient and helpful, explaining things in a simple but effective way. More recently I played in another of their games and in both campaigns I was really blown away by how they went above and beyond to incorporate the pieces of backstory into something special and immersive. Now that I'm a more experienced player (playing/running 8 campaigns currently!) I can safely recommend Josh to experienced and newer players alike. I personally guarantee you a great time ^^
If you want a consistent, immersive and engaging DM then look no further than here.
Josh is a brilliant GM, I was very new to d&d and asked lots of questions which he patiently answered, combat with Josh is amazing fun 2 hours pass in what feels like 10 mins.
A great example of his flexible approach for me anyway was the game I played in I was a yuanti who came into the game following the advice of a spiritual premonition (I was new and not very good with backstory) so Josh set it up that the followers of mirakul we were fighting were raising yuanti zombies to help tie me into the narrative which I was so grateful for.
I really can't recommend him enough if you want a fun lively game good accents, comedy, EXCITING AND ENGAGING combat and a game you literally count the days down to playing again he's the one you want
