The 'Merry Little Monsters' Campaign! [5e], [discord], [free], [longterm]

 Hey! 

My name is Mike and I am looking for 4-5 players to join a homebrew world where long term character growth and development is hoped for and planned for. I have many campaigns worth of experience, both online and IRL, and my goal and dream is to have a campaign go from level 1 to level 20. The sessions will take place on Thursday, at 7pm, EST time. My style usually is around 50% Roleplaying, 30% Combat, 20% Other. I really like giving players agency, definitely see the DM's job as presenting choices/situations, and believing there is no 'right answer' and even 'mistakes/failures/bad rolls' can lead to fantastic and memorable stories that we are creating together. 

Essentials:  5e (2024), free(!), online with discord audio, basic vtt, meet weekly at 7pm EST time, characters start at level 1 with milestones!

Everyone, of any age or level of experience or whatever else, is welcome to apply!

This world is the size of a small continent, called the Lotus Realm, where magic is derived from the bones of dead dragon gods, and there is the constant threat of invasion from Giants crossing over from the Primordial Plane. Although there is a world at stake the campaign begins in a very local fashion and the first several levels will occur in the home-town of Da'Mily. Everyone in the party has different backgrounds and stories, but they all have one thing in common:  at some point in their life they were adopted by the golden dragonborn Rustic Merry, who is now elderly and reaching the final years of his life...

Starting at level 1 The Merry Little Monsters return and re-unite at home to their arthritis-inflicted adopted father, after spending years away, in order to help him deal with some new brigands attempting to force local businesses to pay for 'protection' (including Rustic's booming candy store). Although this adopted family might find themselves in over their heads from the get-go they are able to depend and trust each other, and together they can navigate this chaotic time. A goal I have is to help players create characters, with backstories that fit well in the world, and so upon acceptance in the campaign the DM will work with you to pick the best ancestry (race) and backstory for the world.
