EDIT: Real life happens, and players go for all manner of reasons. We've been running with three players for a little while, but we're still accepting more! Up to two more possible players can join in the fight-for-your-life, discover-the-truth story of Innistrad! Read below, and come on in!
EDIT: Up to one more character can join! Are you willing to fight for your life, to feel hopeless in the face of darker, sinister and more powerful forces? Then read below, make a character, and let me, your humble prospective DM know! Join the few that bare witness to the misfortunes and woes of Innistrad!
EDIT: THAT'S RIGHT. UP TO TWO MORE PLAYERS CAN JOIN THE HORRIFIC WORLD OF INNISTRAD. PM ME OR RESPOND TO THIS THREAD IF INTERESTED.
---Original Post--- I've been a DM for a four-player table of this campaign for almost a year now almost two years now, and I love it, unequivocally and completely, but.. I'd like to see it approached from a more role play intensive, Play-by-Post atmosphere.
The campaign is based on Magic the Gathering's plane of Innistrad. It is a heavily Gothic horror themed setting. Monsters such as werewolves, vampires, and zombies, etc. hunt and prey on humans, while humans have only themselves and the power of their church to protect them. There is a wiki about it which is informative, as well as many illustrations and articles (that can be found by your friendly-neighborhood search engine) that detail various stories of the plane. But!
I've prepared a document that describes Innistrad in a, more or less, over-encompassing introductory guide. This is the link to it. It's not the shortest read (but its not walls of text and has a lot of pictures!), but it compiles information regarding the world as well as some rules that will be implemented in the game and homebrew items. Here are some bullet points that are the most important to know for now:
- Race Restriction. The only race available for character selection is human. BUT there are several kinds of human (4) which depend on your character's origin, or home province. - Deadlier and Grittier. Death Grinder, Healer's Kit Dependence, and Slow Natural Healing are utilized. Innistrad is a dark place; I felt it would be more fitting to put into place the darker (tougher) rules of D&D. - Even more Deadly and Gritty. Sanity will be utilized. The things your characters will see weigh heavy on the mind, heart, and soul, and sanity will be a measure of your character's mental fortitude and state.
As a DM, I am not heavy on RAW and look more favorably on good roleplay. If something is cool and reasonably/realistically feasible, you'll more than likely do it or at least roll for it. BUT I do look to the rules as any DM should on various cases (i.e., carrying too much, crafting, spells, holding breath). What I'm saying is, as far as I'm concerned, good roleplay can trump the rules. My two table rules (virtual or literal) are:
1. When in doubt, W-W-[character initial]-D? What would your character do? Do it; and 2. D&D is a safe space. Let's keep it that way.
Players I am looking for are really into roleplaying their character and have a good balance of writing skill and vocabulary. I'm kind of a stickler for good writing (I don't like run-on's and consistent misspellings or miss-punctuation), but I'm not a perfectionist by any means. Devotion is also something I'm looking for. Real life always comes first, always, but a certain measure of devotion has to be put in place to see the story to the end, just as you sit through a movie or turn the pages of a book. I'm not looking for super responsive players that post every day, but you should contribute to the story every other day or at least twice within a week.
EDIT: For all those interested, I've added a small insert about the world's language under the "Your Character in Innistrad" page, closer to the end of the document.
This all seems really awesome. I’ve perused the information provided in the link and it’s all really well put together. I wanted to express my interest, but also let others checking out the thread know that it is a very interesting setting.
Awesome! Pm your character idea or any specific thoughts about the setting, or concerns about the variant rules.
EDIT: Also, to anyone interested, I've added the Inquisitor background to the document as an available background (from MtG's Planeshift: Innistrad), as well as a simple rundown of where certain character classes may fit into the world.
Awesome. How into roleplay do u get? Im looking for players that are unafraid of getting into the minds of their character instead of just the "im really scared, but i hit the werewolf" posts.
I prefer heavier amounts of roleplay, especially in play by post. I like to go by what the character would do, rather than what I think they should do.
That's right. The campaign is now accepting up to two more players. Read the original post and the introductory document, and let me know if you're interested along with your potential character!
Are you still looking for players? I'd be very interested in possibly joining if so as this concept intrigues me. I'm new to D&D but am relatively experienced as a play by post rper.
I have tried PMing you, but keep getting an error. Anyway, if you are still looking for a player, below is my character concept.
The sound of wooden wind chimes click -clacking against each other as a light breeze stirs them. Holly hung above the door of a village home, oak leaves on the shutters. A nazar carved onto the side of a cart. These are the old ways; the ancient ways. The ways that served us well for centuries in our struggle against the darkness. I have nothing against the Church of Avacyn other than their insistence in exclusivity. The have done much good for many people and have stemmed the tide of evil for centuries. But now, Avacyn is missing, and the Church's power wanes. Wicked creatures grow stronger and the protections that people have depended on for so long are failing. People are losing hope, and sometimes in desperation willingly join the very forces that are out to destroy them. Their fear causes them to become that which they abhor.
I represent a different path for people to walk down should they so choose. Many call me witch, or warlock. They accuse me of cavorting with demons, of stealing children, causing crops to fail, and spreading misery wherever I go. In those places where memory of old runs strong, and where people pass on the ancient traditions from generation to generation, what I am is known in truth. If Avacyn does not return soon, it may well be those like me, that stand between humanity and the eternal night.
Character Name: TBD (Naming a character is always the hardest part for me), Class: Druid (Circle of the Land, Forest), Alignment: NG
Provincial Origins: Kessig, Formerly of Harrowhenge
The character was away during the werewolf destruction of Harrowhenge and desires to help prevent more settlements from meeting that same fate.
If this is accepted than I will create a full character sheet.
