Hi, one of my favourite book series is Dies the Fire (Emberverse) by SM Stirling and for some time I've thought that it could be fun to run a game in that universe. So here we are and I'm going to give it a try. A short synopsis for those unfamiliar with the books:- it is mostly set around Portland. Oregon and one day a bright flash went of inside everyone's head and suddenly technology stopped working. Something happened to the laws of physics and nothing electronic works anymore; but more than that, steam power no longer work; explosives no longer work. This is a world where nothing more complicated than a trebuchet works and power no longer comes from the barrel of a gun but from your strong right sword arm. On the up side magic has started to seep into the world.
In this game everyone is human and it will be split into 3 main parts. Magic will be more useful as time goes on but it will always be ritual magic.
Part 1 is the day of the change. Everything stops working, civilisation collapses and our heroes have to survive and find a place of sanctuary for the long term. You can take any class you want but at this stage a wizard will have no spells and will be pretty useless in a fight. After 2nd level a spell casting class will be able to cast ritual magic (any class spell marked as ritual). Known spells will be as usual.
Part 2 there is a major quest to find the source of the change. If successful spell casters will be able to cast any spell from their lists as rituals. ie the wizard can call forth a fireball but it will take 10 minutes
Part 3 the change let something horrible into the world as well as magic and it will be trying to thwart you for most of the campaign. This is where you are (hopefully) strong enough to expel it from the world.
As I said, everyone is human so we are using the variant option, Two different ability scores of your choice increase by 1. You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice. You gain one feat of your choice.
Hi, I would love to join this campaign but I have a few things to say first. First off this would be my first campaign as I am a very new person to this community and game, I would be thrilled if you would still have me though. Next is how would this campaign be taking place, would it be only on a source such as discord? This are all the questions I have for now, thanks for reading!

New players are welcome. It would be played here on the forum, I will create a new thread for the game once I get some players. I'm from Australia so I'm out of sync with most of the world so anything live doesn't work for me. As this is based in the "real world" it is very different from a normal DnD game.
I'd love to join you guys. This would be my first campaign but I have knowledge about d&d campaigns. If you can't accept me into the group I'm ok with it. I'm using a fighter dragonborn character.

Yeah, I'd be totally down for trying this out. Something new and unique makes this seem really cool.
I like the idea: I have a character ready (human variant ) barbarian

Barbarian, nice! I'm going with basically a charismatic brawler type fighter.

Bump.
I need one more player to fill out the group. This is not a standard DnD game and it is not for everyone.
We have started playing so have a look

if it interests you DM me and we can get you a character.
I was in the group before I hadn’t realized we started yet since I didn’t receive any messages about it or a discord
i still have my character
bump
Waaaow this sounds awesome, do you have enough space for one more on this bus of awesome?
How would the game be run? Discord voice chat?
We’ve been purely PbP here for a couple of weeks. Think we have room for more adventurers.
Hi! This is way after you posted this haha, but the campaign sounds great so let me know if you ever need anyone to fill in.
