So this server. Holy shit. I joined a week or two ago. Was able to make a wonderful ddb character due to open shared campaigns. Observed a lot of what was happening, became timidly vocal in general chat. Finally had the time for an Encounter. Was greeted with open arms with my newbishness of everything. I mean, this server actively has it all, roleplay out the yinyang, general sure to amuse, multi hour "encounters" that are pretty much mini adventures, a totally awesome community of people/players. It is really everything i wanted/expected in a DnD discord server. Join now or critical fail in your online expectations!
Glad to see you love being with us man! We really do try super hard to make the server open and a wonderful place for our players! Our staff are super hard working and great people, and Qo and I (the server owners) listen to the community as best we can to help drive the server into a positive direction. After about a year of running Draconus, her and I are not perfect, but we work hard to make sure Drac is a lovely place to play D&D, make friends, and have a general good time 😊 Thanks for being a part of our family!
Come Join the server my friends! We are very alive and have tons of players who are super friendly!! We teach the game as well as help Tutor DM's when we can, and have regular updates for everyone!!
As a player in Draconus since autumn 2020, I have a few impressions I would like to share.
Firstly, there are things in the server I wholeheartedly enjoy:
- The rich worldbuilding and the variety of locals are easy to suit any taste, from the most vanilla pixie, to the edgiest of edge lords. Cities, areas in nature, as well as NPC shops.
- There are also player owned homes and businesses which add to setting and the development of the world.
- There is an established travel system with which characters can move from one region to another, ranging from walking to teleportation.
- The server is nearly constantly active, or at least general chat is. Actually though, I find it easier to make conversation with fewer people around, until I am familiar with enough of them to join the more crowded chatter.
- Multiple server-owned campaigns on ddb guarantees that players have access to all official content, as well as tons of homebrew, if that's your thing.
- In fact, users can submit their own homebrew if they wish.
- We can have as many active characters as we like, for all styles of play.
- Sometimes there are seasonal events with fun activities (sometimes with dire consequences) , and world events, which.... Fight gods, I guess?
- The encounters. They are ecentially one shot games, which start more or less as soon as you sign up, and are done within hours. (As opposed to waiting for days for schedules to line up.)
- The friends! In these several months since I've joined Draconus I have managed to find a small group of people with similar gaming styles as mine, whom I dare to consider friends. They are people I enjoy talking to out of character, and enjoy role playing with. A true treasure!
Now... There are also things that don't live up to my personal preferences. I have a very specific role play focus, so take the following with a grain of salt.
- First: the encounters. Yes, they're great, and easy to start and finish. They are also mostly combat. Purely role play or puzzle encounters are rare and far between, which means that pacifist characters like mine have a hard time levelling up. And gaining levels is the way to measures character progress in dnd.
- On that note, there is a system in which DMs can grant role play xp for good rp. But in my experience, few ever do so. I understand, as who has time to read through all the channels in search of worthy writing? Even though I understand, it does still kill the drive to create. Much easier to kill stuff instead.
- The other way to gain xp in character is through the guild system. It's a blessing for characters you don't play a lot, basically AFK grinding. For my active characters though... Not my preferred method.
- Server activity is also not to my preference. Most users are active during day time in the Americas, and so encounters are mostly focused in those time zones. Yes, there are active players in other continents. But I consider us a scattered minority.
- On that note, some of my favourite admins and DMs seem to have become inactive as of late. Though their reasons are valid, the server could nonetheless use more people who can run encounters, shops, and events. DMs are always wanted, welcome, and appreciated!
These are just my personal opinions off the top of my head.
I do enjoy my time in Draconus, playing my little pacifist cinnamon rolls, and watching my friends role play. The art channel and the channel for wholesome thoughts are also places I frequesntly visit. And, between you and me, it's fun asking incredibly specific lore questions to NPCs and watching the DM scramble to improvise a plausible answer. :3c
Still alive and kicking it in the spring!! We are always looking to add new players, or players who wish to run games! Come join Draconus and make many new friends along the way!!!
