Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
Ogoth listens to Dax's question and ponders how to answer, a brief look of anguish becomes his countenance as if he is troubled by something before quickly reverting his expression to his more confident self, then he answers Dax while also looking to everyone else, "I suppose I should share a little about myself before formally getting on the road. Forgive me, I'm not very comfortable in these formal situations and have ventured to the outside world only seldomly, I should have introduced myself to you all. I was raised from very early in my youth, for as long as I can remember, by Dwarves deep in the mountains far from here. They taught me a code of honor and how to fight, so I served with distinction as a soldier within the enclave and later as a personal bodyguard to a noble."
Ogoth gives a brief pause and thinks "I hope they believe I'm not lying about all this..." knowing it possibly could sound unbelievable by some; before he continues speaking to all, "She was not a princess, however, I managed to fend off an ambush meant to kill her and her young son while nearly meeting my doom, so I was given the name 'Kinshield', my choice of duty, and also these..." he then holds his arms out so and uncovers his cloak so everyone else may see his tattoos, glimmering and shining in the light from the precious stones and gold/silver runes.
He says, "They are Dwarven tattoos, only given to the most distinguished dwarf warriors, and usually kept secret from outsiders, but you all seem dependable. As for my original tribe, I have no clue what happened to them, or me for that matter. I'm honored that you consider me a leader, Dax. I may have some experience leading others in battle, but I'm only a simple soldier. Sometimes people just happen to follow me. Navigating my way through the politics of the world is not my strong suit, I just do what I feel is right and respect those who wish to do some good in society. Like yourselves. However, if it involves shielding others from harm or taking on the fiercest of enemiesβ I can be depended upon, even if it costs me my life."
He turns to Celus and says, "You are correct Celus, true nobility comes from the soul, not from blood," He says to Tellus and Teagan, "Glad to serve with you both, as well. You both sound quite good natured," before turning to Dax, remembering the beauty of elvish that he's heard a few times over the years says with a smile, "Tell me friend, what did you say earlier? I've heard a few words of elvish before." He then says to his companions, realizing he's talked a little too much, "Sorry, I rambled a bit much. As my fellow soldiers said I do at times. My home and where I came from is very important to me. Please, call me 'Og.'"
"I'm glad you are so well versed in protection. I myself am more of a utility adventurer and such may need your aide." Blushing slightly, Dax looks away for a moment, "I hope I did not offend. I am of course of Half-elvish heritage and therefore know a few of the more Proper greetings for my kin. 'Elen sΓla lΓΊmenn' omentielvo' means 'a star shines on the hour of our meeting' in Elvish. I was only meaning to greet The King and Queen in a properly respectful manner. 'Tis a greeting and nothing more."
Dax's eyes knit together for a moment before he looks back up curiously, "I haven't offended you have I? I will admit, most of what I know of other cultures is through story and song only."
Og holds up his huge hands and waves side to side with a smile, hoping to reassure Dax, "No, no not at all my friend. Your music and words reminded me of fonder memories of home. I befriended a couple of your kins' soldiers and merchants that passed through a few times. Growing up in a dwarf enclave and taking on various posts in the enclave guard at the front gate as and within the Court gave me several opportunities to hear elvish. Though I don't know the language myself. I just find the different languages and cultures of the civilized world to all have grace and elegance to them in their own way," complimenting the four other members as well.
When he hears that most of Dax's knowledge of other cultures comes from stories and music, Og relates by saying, "I also only know a little as well through rumors and old soldiers stories. It will be good to have someone who has a talent for the arts while on the road. In my experience, having someone help to keep your spirits high is just as important, if not moreso than a sharp blade," as Og takes a brief glance at Dax's lute.
"If you don't mind me asking, I don't think I've had the pleasure of meeting a half-elf before. How did you come to accept this task?" Og kindly asks of Dax, but also looks towards everyone else in curiosity.
The moment Og mentions the nobility of a soul CelusΒ΄ life flashes before his eyes."Do not tell them". Celus shrugs off the voice inside his head and speaks up. "Kinshield.. you said? Your story is absolutely extraordinary, no doubt you have been chosen for this mission for your previous exploits. As for myself.. I am like you say "of noble soul" but not in the way you might define it. At birth my mortal body was gifted by the soul of a celestial being. Thereby i am what the common folk call angelic in nature, or Aasimar."
Celus bows and smiles with his pearly white teeth. As he utters the words Aasimar he does a little gesture with his hand, casting Prestidigitation to create a halo above his head for a slight second.
"I left my home while looking for my purpose. I have not yet found it, but the faiths has guided me into the company of all of you." He scans the assembly of adventurers and nobles with his eyes before once again focusing on the goliaths tattoos.
"Pardon my curiosity, Kinshield.. But how do you create tattoos like those? There must be magic involved to imbue your skin with the glimmer of a hundred gems like that!"

After listening to Celus, Og becomes slightly surprised when he sees the halo briefly appear and moves his hand to lightly touch the area where the halo used to be with wonder, but pauses and recoils his hand before actually doing so to avoid possibly offending Celus, then says, "Fascinating."
Also being amazed at how Celus came to be, he continues, "Your origin is astonishing, I've never met anyone such as yourself, simply amazing. How did you become aware of your divine blessing? Did you just feel and know it your whole life or was it discovered later on through your magic?"
Og is however troubled internally when he hears the name Kinshield, but does his best to not reveal it with his expression. Deception:16
"I will do what I can to help you find your purpose. Perhaps we'll both find answers someday, I'm also searching for something, but that's a story for another time."
He then curls up his arms inwards towards his chest, "As for these, I would say your assumption is probably correct. However, being that I'm not of the same race as my dwarf guardiansβI was not allowed to actually witness the process, visually or otherwise. I simply just remember not having them, then possessing them a moment later. I assume that was part of the agreement within the noble I saved, who insisted on me receiving them. They knew it didn't matter to me if I received them or notβperforming my duty honorably and being given the middle name of 'Kinshield' was enough, so I didn't question their decision. But, since I don't know the *exact* details, I can reveal them and talk about them to whomever I choose. Which has been very few."
Teagan is not quite sure What to think of her new companions. She will just have to be alert and pay attention to all that is around her. She had only vaguely heard of this underdark.
After listening to all her new companions Teagan stands. βSo, shall we begin? Iβm sure Prince Lucan has had enough of the Drow and is ready to be home.β
Og looks towards Teagan and thinks "I guess we should leave as soon as we can..." After a brief pause Og says to the group, "I suppose you're right, every moment lost makes our chances lower. If everyone is ready and has no more questions for Lady Faral, Sir Rolen, or anyone else then we should set out as soon as we can."
Dax nods glad to have escaped further scrutiny from the group. Best not to give too much away. They may appear as safe traveling companions, but a sword for hire is just that. A sward for Hire.
"It sounds like we're settled and we're ready to go. Follow me them." Rolen then leads you five outside of the room and outside the beautiful elven spire where you happen upon a large covered wagon pulled by two beautiful white steeds. As the driver gets off the wagon he hands Rolen his bag and a bow and arrow with a curt nod before leaving. "I told you I'd take you to where the fight was so let us go." With that, he climbs into the driver's seat as the rest of you get into the wagon and begin the week-long trek to the site. With all five of you in the back, it is rather uncomfortable but one of you can ride in the front with Rolen making it a little better. You don't have to worry about food on this trip since Rolen has brought enough for all of you. Sitting in the front you learn a little more about him and the prince.
Rolen is an Arcane Archer. He was trained to be one since he was just a child. Showing promise, and compatibility with the crowned prince, led him to be his personal guard. Rolen has been the Prince's guard for the past 20 years and he has been friends with him for the past 50 years. The Prince, you learn, is also a wizard. He's very interested in Abjuration magic and has been studying it since before Rolen knew him. He's quite good and is able to hold his own a little bit in fights, just don't tell the King and Queen that.
After a week-long travel, you finally arrive at the battle site. It's quite obvious to anyone that there was a battle here. There are still some scorch marks on the ground, some broken branches lay on the ground, you even see a rock that looks like it was melted by acid. "We've already had some guards come by here before looking for anything left behind. There wasn't much. Whatever the Drow didn't take scavengers probably did. Well here is where I leave you. I have a little something to help you guys while you're down there. It's not much but I don't know how much food you can find in the Underdark. Good luck. And please bring back the Prince. He means more to me than any of you know." With that, he gifts each of you 5 days worth of rations and then turns around and leaves.
