I am very very new at D&D, but would like to try and enter a game. You have to start someday, right? I prefer text games as then I have a bit of time to think and being rather on the shy side, voice games are really way out of my league. Today the D&D Players Handbook should be delivered all going well, so I plan to browse through it this weekend to learn as much as I can. EDIT: the D&D Players Handbook will be delivered Monday, so I'll try to read as much as possible online already. In the meanwhile I did already start on a character, which can be found here: Onyx Forest. She still needs to be worked on a bit more, feel free to throw me suggestions.
So I am looking for a PBP game, where a very fresh noobie is welcome with a level 1 character. Preferably a game suitable for noobies to learn, so nothing too complicated yet. A bit of fighting is welcome, but I'd like to keep Onyx alive, so not too much either. I have absolutely no clue on how everything works, so I hope to find myself a game where so to speak I will be held by my hand and guided. I have a little experience in role playing, having amused myself with participating in NaNoWriMo 3 years (back when I was young). So I hope I will be able to hold my own in the story telling department, I just am into the blue as to how the stats work, the rolling of the dice, etc.
My character is called Onyx Forest, she is a Tabaxi and I chose as class Ranger. And I guess you can read up on her story and such on her character sheet. As mentioned, the character sheet is not fully ready yet. I hope to finalize it soon with help of the Handbook. Again, any suggestions or tips are always welcome! Can't say I will listen to them though ;-).
Hello Blackscorpion and Rastlin. Unfortunately I can't really DM for you guys right now but wanted to say 'Welcome!' since no one has responded to you yet. There was another similar post yesterday so I suggested this other new player maybe also join up with you guys. I hope you find someone who can run something to help get you further into the game. If not message me in maybe a few weeks and I'll reevaluate my availability. Feel free to message me if you get stuck on any particular rules question like "what the heck is an Action vs. Bonus Action vs. extra attacks, etc." as well. Happy Adventuring!
I do get it is hard for noobs like us to get into a game. I figure most people rather want to play an advanced game than holding someone's hand. But we are here to stay, so we keep pushing this thread up until someone takes pity on us and DM's a game for us ;-).
Also would love to try PbP, I've played live games before and had fun but had to drop out due to rl stuff. Now looking to get back into playing and thought PbP would be fun. If anyone has room for new players let me and the other players posting here know. Thank you :)
Welcome everybody, it seems we are now with 4 people (listed here below) wanting to play a noobie-game of PBP. I hope some DM will have pity on us and have some time to treat us to a game :-). Lets all cross our fingers, toes, wings, tails, whatever and hope someone will pop by soon!
I'm actually starting a Play By Post Homebrew campaign soon just waiting for the art of the town and main building to get done which is a half guild hall half tavern/inn building
Long and short of the story is that there is a massive sinkhole that leads to the under dark, many adventurers come to the small town to and descend down, taking up a quest or two for some extra coin and a warm up before the main story begins. When something is found deeper down, something cruel and chaotic, something contained that seeks to be let loose and has the potential to unleash chaos, something we must stop.
And would you be willing to take a couple of newbies in this adventure? My character is a rather shy Tabaxi (Onyx Forest) and while I have just received the Players Handbook yesterday, I have not yet been able to read it all the way through. So I (and maybe others too) will need a bit of a hand on how to play. For me this has mainly to do with when is it my turn, when do I roll which dice, how all the points work, etc.
Also, is this campaign here on the forum or on Discord?
It would be hosted on a discord server. I wouldn't mind hosting for new players and helping you through any troubles and difficulties you might have. I can accept up to 6 players for a Play By Post
Fortunately, I was planning on running Dragon of Icespire Peak here on DnD Beyond. I've had the essentials kit for a while and never got around to running the actual adventure. With that being said, I could use some players who would be interested in this adventure.
If need be, here's a small overview of the setting.
The world of the Forgotten Realms is one of high fantasy, populated by elves, dwarves, halflings, humans, and other folk. In the Realms, knights dare the crypts of the fallen dwarf kings of Delzoun, seeking glory and treasure. Rogues prowl the dark alleyways of teeming cities such as Neverwinter and Baldur’s Gate. Clerics in the service of gods wield mace and spell, questing against the terrifying powers that threaten the land. Wizards plunder the ruins of the fallen Netherese empire, delving into secrets too dark for the light of day. Bards sing of kings, queens, heroes, and tyrants who died long ago.
On the roads and rivers of the Realms travel minstrels and peddlers, merchants and guards, soldiers and sailors. Steel-hearted adventurers from backcountry farmsteads and sleepy villages follow tales of strange, glorious, faraway places. Good maps and clear trails can take even an inexperienced youth with dreams of glory far across the world, but these paths are never safe. Fell magic and deadly monsters are the perils one faces when traveling in the Realms. Even farms and freeholds within a day’s walk of a city can fall prey to monsters, and no place is safe from the sudden wrath of a dragon.

It appears I can suddenly choose between 3 campaigns. Can I ask if and how big a chance you think I have of keeping my Tabaxi alive?
I am only 3 pages far into the Players Handbook, so I don't know. But if a character dies, is that it for the character? D you have to make a new one? Or can you use your character again in another campaign?
Asking you too. It appears I can suddenly choose between 3 campaigns. How big a chance you think I have of keeping my Tabaxi alive? Lots of fighting might not yet be up the alley of Onyx. And what if she dies. Is that it or can I use her again in another campaign?

You can use in another campaign. And, if you really wanted, you could have someone resurrect you, or pay to have you resurrected. Rime of the frostmaiden has some harder battles, but I could make sure to not put too much on you as you learn, and I’m sure the others would be able to carry if you needed. I know what it’s like to be new, I was not too long ago learning from a friend. ;)
She unfortunately has no experience with bows or other long distance weapons, never hunting. She does have a quarterstaff which she can handle okeyish. Level 1 so I guess I can't say she is superb with it yet though. And a dagger, so I fear close range combat is all she can do (at the moment).
Let me see the replies of the others if that is ok? I will decide soon where I will join. I hope my fellow newbies see these posts too so they can join too!

Cheers Black Scorpion! I am in a very similar situation! If you find a group looking to teach a bunch of newbies let me know!
Ah a fellow wanderer! Thanks for bumping my thread up, it makes it more likely we will both be found by a DM in need for 2 noobs 🐱

Hello all,
I am not new to D&D but I am new to PbP. My live groups all disbanded and I figured I would give this a shot to scratch the itch of wanting to play.

campaign, if you want to join-https://ddb.ac/campaigns/join/27493053190653128
ive had a few pbp with newbies too, and am 100% ok with doing what you call “DMing while holding someone’s hand”
heads up, frostmaiden has a decent amount of fighting tho. Other in the party have experience though, so if you join don’t worry
Like being a player, love dming.
