In the city of Freeport, a call has gone out for experienced adventurers. A notice hangs in front of every gathering place where such folk might be found. It reads as follows:
The Frelian Defense Forces needs several adventurous volunteers to end the goblin threat. If interested, report to Sergeant Knox at the FDF Headquarters Supply Depot.
*A short woman standing about 5'2 glances at the notice hanging on the board, her large wings stretch from behind her catching some people walking past off guard, her dark brown feathers ruffling with each movement, mika shifts her bag a bit and heads off twords the supply depot*
Bolin Brickbreaker the Wild Boar of Durak Son of Bronn has entered the city of Freeport hearing news of trouble and hopes to aid these people in order to restore his honor amongst his people. Bolin is about 4'10" with tan skin and red hair and was a former soldier in the Durak army that was headed by his father and seeks redemption for his foolish actions in the battle against the Men of the Mist.
Tired from his recent travels Audun Sandtoes heads to a nearby inn to rest his weary bones. Upon his arrival Audun spies the notice outside the inn and the prospect of serving once again catches his interest. Besides, he could use the money. The 6 foot man clad in chainmail with a breathable desert headscarf obscuring his face walks to the depot. His family's scimitar hangs from his belt while a green and gold painted circular shield rests on the back of his backpack along with his bedroll and rope. From what visible skin there is it's clear this man is very suntanned. A tattered green banner is attached to his shield, from some faraway mercenary company it seems. Audun considers which story of his past battles he should share to his new allies over a game of cards as he nears the depot.
Deragor, a slightly dark-skinned elf of about 5.5 feet tall with dark eyes and silvery hair, knew exactly where he was going. He wore well-made leather armor, but it looked like it wasn't a masterpiece. It’s like it was made in the wild without the right tools. And so it was, but it didn’t detract from the effectiveness of the armor. A long bow and a quiver full of arrows stood out from behind him, a short sword hung from his belt, while the very eyed could notice the knife tucked into the shank of his boots. As he walked the streets of Freeport toward the Supply Warehouse, only one thing came to mind; to get rid of this “goblin problem”. He had personal interests, this could be seen in his eyes, so he hurried. He had a problem with these little bastards before and it didn't end well...
Primrose Perianth, a ;human veteran of an earlier strike force against the goblins, joins the group.
She's dressed in fine clothes, in shades of Pink, with blonde hair and a wide brimmed pink hat. She constantly carries a parasol (also pink) and speaks with (the equivalent of) a chipper British upper class accent.
"Oh, hello. I'm Primrose Perianth, of the New Burgundy Perianth's. It's good to meet you. You can call me Prim if you like. I'm trying to discover the secret...of Life...ITSELF! Which means i can provide healing to you and damage to our foes. Note that I generally drain life force from our foes and use it to heal our allies, so if you don't want that, let me know."
She cheerfully shakes the hand, or even hugs, anyone who reciprocates..
As you mingle with the other adventurers who have answered the call, a grizzled and scarred older man in a dark FDF uniform enters the room. "Alright, folks," he says loudly, "settle down and take your seats."
Once everyone is seated, he begins again. "Hello. I am Sergeant Knox. As you may already know, thanks to the efforts of Miss Perianth and her companions," he says with a wink and a nod to the lady in pink, "Freeport has been able to avoid a prolonged siege at the hands of the goblin horde. Now the real work begins. With your help, we will put an end to this goblin threat once and for all. For more on how we are going to do that, we have a special representative of the Eternal Elemental Coven here, Lord Prince Filip Darson of Sudlia."
From behind the sergeant comes a man of average height with brown hair and wearing a bright white uniform with blue trim. "Thank you, Sergeant," the man says with a nod. "First of all, let me say how grateful I am at your willingness to embark on this quest. Frelia is not the only land that has seen an unusual increase in goblin activity. Groups of goblins and hobgoblins have been appearing all over the world of Niersala. Only recently have we discovered how this is being accomplished." As if by magic, Lord Prince Filip brings out a large blue orb from behind his back. "Those of you familiar with wizardry might recognize this as an arcane focus. As we recently discovered in East Salzaria, the goblins have been using objects similar to this as a means to move large numbers of troops from one place to another. They are used as foci for teleportation spells.
"We have learned the most recent batch of goblinoids to invade our lands have not been coming from our plane of existence," he explains. "A powerful wizard known as the Dark Lord Gregory Darek has somehow come into possession of an orb like this one which can penetrate the barriers between our world and the lower plane of Acheron, home of the god of the goblinoids. Unknown to us at the time, this Master Goblin Orb was being kept by the hobgoblin warlord which Miss Perianth and her allies defeated. In the following chaos, the Master Orb was lost. It will be your mission to find the Master Goblin Orb and deliver it to agents of the Eternal Elemental Coven or destroy the artifact if necessary to avoid it being used again.
"Sergeant Knox," the Lord Prince summons the sergeant, "if you would."
"Yes, sir," the sergeant replies with a slight bow. He then turns to you. "Alright. Before we begin issuing your FDF gear, are there any questions?"
Bolin stands up and in a grizzly Dwarven accent says "The names Bolin Son of Bronn now I don't know to much about all this magic stuff but will we be traveling to this lower plane to take him head on or will this dark wizard be coming to us."

"Hello Prim" - looking at the woman in the strange dress - "My name is Deragor." - he said, then looked around at the other members of the team as well. - “I'm glad I don't have to do it alone.”
As more and more people began to be in the room and listening to the formal conversations, Deragor began to feel uncomfortable. He nestled, constantly adjusting his clothes, occasionally placing his hand loosely, not threateningly on the grip of his sword, to find some relief.
[Other world? Teleport an army? It is much more serious than I expected.] - he thought to himself - [But… at least more goblins will fall.] - a slight grin appeared on his face.
One of those who answered the call is a hulking bugbear, who sat silently in the corner as he listened to the details. He wears leather armor, with a longbow strung over his shoulder, as well as a rapier at his hip. Of note he also has a component pouch, and has a deep intelegence in his gray eyes. His fur is black, what can be seen outside of the armor he wears.
"No questions." He says in a voice that has a bit of a growl to it. A fierce smile curls up his lips, showing pointed canines. "Just can't wait to get to pound on some goblins..."
Jostled about in a sea of knees and ankles, Wicker remains attentive and silent as a mouse throughout Knox's speech. Only upon 'any questions?' does she cough politely, seeking the sergeant's attention. A petite gloved hand, raised inquiringly, belongs to the most peculiar little person - any who are unacquainted with the like of Lotusden Halflings are surprised to see that her face, half hidden by the shadow of a woollen hood, is bright vermillion. Wicker stands around 2'9'', with fiery silver eyes, numerous freckles and a feral thicket of dark hair, which is domesticated into a side braid and lanced by twigs and leaves. "Hello! Yes, down here..." she pipes up, with the silky inflections of a Welsh accent "...what is this gear we have to wear? The poster said nothing about gear."
Audun does card tricks while waiting for the Sergeant to finish while listening intently. When the time for questions comes, he asks his. "What sort of terrain can we expect in Acheron, assuming we need to travel there to obtain the goblin orb and defeat the dark mage?" Having spent a lot of time in the desert Audun has an appreciation of knowing the terrain. Remembering the largest dunes, the ones that don't move as much as the others, is essential to desert navigation. He also wants to pack accordingly for the climate, already being out of his element.
As the adventurers mill about waiting, Prim politely greets people as above. Then...
"Oh, hello Mr. Deragor. It's SO nice to meet you!" (smiles and extends a hand to shake) "Yes, facing an army alone is dangerous. I don't recommend it. So, do you have any objections if I heal you using life energy drained from our foes?"
She sits to hear the speech. Prim's jaw drops & eyebrows raise when Prince Filip steps out, but she recovers quickly, realizing "somebody that important means sh*t just got real"
Prim raises her hand afterward. "Yes Sargent, I have a question. This seems the sort of mission where "Detect Magic" or "Locate Objects" spells would be invaluable. Sadly, I have neither. Do we have casters in our group who know them, or members of the FDL who could teach us? And are there lockers where we could store stuff we don't need, like my fancy clothes, while we're on the mission?"
(OOC: I don't mean to metagame but I thought "Detect Magic" and "Locate Objects" spells would be widely enough known to ask. I'll edit the response if not)
"First of all," Sergeant Knox begins answering questions, "we will not be doing any interplanar travelling. The mission is to find where this orb is here in Niersala and retrieve or destroy it for the Eternal Elemental Coven and all the good people of this world. Hopefully, if he is involved, the Dark Lord will come to us, but if necessary, we will go to him. The FDF will provide any necessary equipment you might need but don't have, including weapons of the finest quality (+1 to all weapons obtained from the FDF Depot) and common material spell components for you magic users. Lockers and footlockers for storage are provided in the bunk room next door. Quartermaster Kadakithes here," he says gesturing to a tall, skinny man in a dark blue FDF uniform holding a clipboard, "will see that you get what you need before we depart. We will be leaving for the abandoned siege camp first thing in the morning."
"It's just Deragor." - he answered to her, and then look at the offered hand. Thinks a moment, than he gave a strong handshake. - "You can do anything with me if my life in danger."
[Ahh, free weapons? I take it!] “I need one of your finest longbow, and a shortsword too” - said to the Quartermaster. Deragor was not shy, he was a wild man from the forest who, if given the opportunity to acquire something to increase his own chances of survival, especially if offered voluntarily, would take advantage of the opportunity.
"Splendid, Deragor", she says as she finishes the handshake. "That'll make some spell decisions easier to cast".
(What time is it now, to see what we can do before morning? Prim will put what she thinks she won't need, like her fancy clothes and winter clothes, into the footlocker. If they don't issue them, she'll shop for a padlock. And she'll check local arcane bookstores and the Hospital library for a text that has "detect magic" or "locate object")
Not wanting to replace his family's scimitar for a different weapon Audun ignores the weapons provided by the FDF and instead asks Quartermaster Kadakithes for some other equipment. "Hello Quartermaster, do you have any potions of healing? I used to serve in a mercenary company and understand if that might be a bit much to ask. However, I'm not enthusiastic about a necromancer I've never met before healing me." He tries to discreetly gesture towards Prim, having overheard her talking to Deragor. Audun shows Kadakithes the piece of the tattered green banner on his shield. "I actually speak goblin, as crazy as that sounds." He speaks up a little bit, just enough for some other party members to hear his story. "I was protecting a caravan when my company got jumped by the green freaks. My friend Darius got captured during the skirmish, but we also managed to capture some of the goblin in the fight. Of course, many just wanted to execute the goblins, but I took it upon myself to learn their language. After having a basic grasp of goblin I tracked down the goblins and arranged a prisoner exchange. Trading the captured goblins for Darius we found him terribly mistreated and hardly clinging to life. Those goblins were terrible creatures, so we came back during the night and slaughtered them in their sleep. Anyways, I've gotten off topic. About those potions?"
"Nice." Was all Vlar, the bugbear, said upon hearing of the better gear they would be recieving. His gray eyes moved among the other worthies here, looking them over and then keeping his viewpoint to himself. Once the meeting was over he would rise, his body fluidly powerful, then stalk towards the exit with barely contained ferocity.
Bolin then says "ah splendid always willing to add another weapon to the arsenal" he walks up to the quarter mast to receive his new great axe as he does he turns it around getting a feel for the weight does a couple swings "yes this will do nicely" he then takes a look at the group of adventurers "well seems we have quite the group I'm looking forward to fighting along side all of you if any of you my skills include beating down enemies with this both my axe and my words if anyone wishes to speak I will be outside practicing with our new gear, never want to be unprepared" he smiles and turns to walk out the door.
