Setting: Welcome to Faerun. A significant portion of the last two decades' digital content and books within the D&D universe are within the 'Forgotten Realms' setting, and so this is the best place to start if you are new (in my opinion). You can learn most everything important here.
The Campaign: I'm not going easy on you - this is bootcamp. No really. You'll actually be playing a character that (one way or another) "joins" to serve in the army of your most noble Duchess during a time of peril and intrigue.
The campaign will be short with 3-5 players.
This is not a module, just me doing my DM thing. But, it will not go on forever. It is a chance for you to experience the game, get used to the mechanics, and hopefully fall in love with your character and this wonderful game and community we are all in.
I tend to do RP heavy games with combat intermingled. However, since this is a first-time for you, I will try to make this more a 50-50 setup. But you, dear players, can choose that as you go.
There will be themes of violence, descriptions of disturbing mental imagery, and mild mature content. There will not be themes or scenes of sexual violence or violence against children.
Your Character: TBD. I mean that. DO NOT SUBMIT A CHARACTER. That's an order soldier! But... some ground rules:
No roleplaying as children - that's a hard rule.
Core races and classes only (Hey, you're new - how do you know about all the other options anyhow!?!)
I don't care what age the players are so long as they can play emotionally mature characters.
That said, no one under the legal age of adulthood in their respective nation (18 for the United States)
So, what then? Let's start real slow. Please submit the following as your application for game.
What name do you go by and how do you like to be addressed?
Everyone has a history. What was your family life like growing up? How is your home life now that you're older? Your childhood? Do you have siblings, lifelong friends, no one at all?
Is your character a young adult, adult, middle-aged person, or much older?
It's a medieval setting and as such most children aren't treated as they are in our modern times, they are pretty much expected to 'start growing up' past the age of six (using Humans as a baseline). From six to sixteen they are typically understudies to a tradesperson, or their parents, or if noble or within a wealthier society, attending formal education towards a chosen profession. Professions aren't something you figure out later in life, so... what did your character spend their early years preparing to do for the rest of their life? Did you stick to it, or did something change your course?
Is your character in love with anyone? Have they ever been? Where is that person now?
From there, we'll start working out your lives in this world, then your race, then your class. Trust me. I'm a doctor. (I'm not a doctor - that is a total fabrication --- NEVER TRUST YOUR DM).
I will close this post once I have a good batch to start with. I prefer Discord but understand if others don't have access, and can totally do DDB. Up to y'all.
interested new to dnd but not rp i will add details tonight mainly posting right now so as not to lose this thread i have a couple characters but since this is a training senario it makes sense to create something tailored to the experience will think on that in most things i tend toward arcane pursuits and am quite fond of elvish linage my wife may or may not join as well discord kano#4661
I would like to join but I understand if you already have enough.
I am new to this experience and I find it to be interesting. I have an idea for the character but I understand if it won't work or be allowed. That being said it is basically just me. Military brat raised by my big sister because dad was out on deployment and didn't come back mom was also in the military and my sister and I were basically raised on base. If you don't want to allow that I can think of something else. My discord is дядя Криспи#4384. I hope you consider letting me join if not I wish you luck down the road because I think this is a nice thing you are doing.
What name do you go by and how do you like to be addressed? i assume you mean Character here Lannis

Do you have siblings, lifelong friends, no one at all? found in woods and rasied by a eccentric human wizard his recent death as thrust me out in to the unforgiving world. i grew up with only him as he kept me secluded for my own protection
Is your character a young adult, adult, middle-aged person, or much older? I am i think 30 years old
trained in sorcery i have dedicated my life to scholarly pursuits and secretly the truth of my linage
Is your character in love with anyone? Have they ever been? Where is that person now? love in the romantic sense beyond that found in books is largely unknown to me i understand the concept but care not for its trappings even should they be invited upon me
I've never played so I'm excited about this. I'm good with using the forums or discord but just to confirm, it would still be play-by-post if we use discord right?
What name do you go by and how do you like to be addressed? Vania
Everyone has a history. What was your family life like growing up? How is your home life now that you're older? Your childhood? Do you have siblings, lifelong friends, no one at all?
Vania lived with her father and younger sister. She does not know much about her mother, who died when her sister was born. Vania felt a sense of responsibility for her helpless sister and took charge in caring for her though she was not much older herself. Because of this, the two sisters are very close and share many secrets between them. However, due to her responsibilities, Vania is not very close with anyone outside her family and so she is used to being alone.
Is your character a young adult, adult, middle-aged person, or much older? Young adult

Vania followed her father's path as a hunter. Each day she would work to improve her skills of blending into the forest and making the perfect shot. Her father was a tough instructor and Vania always felt as though she couldn't quite reach his standard of approval. This led to her always trying to impress him, practicing intensively and trying to be perfect.
Is your character in love with anyone? Have they ever been? Where is that person now? Vania has never been in love. She was far too devoted to her training and caring for her sister to be interested in the people around her
