Carmen keeps quiet waiting for the others to answer. It is important to know if any of these men have connections in Warrenton. She is kicking herself for using her real name, caught up in the moment of the fight and in amusement of and interest in these fellow travelers. For a moment, she felt safe in the miles that separated her from that city. That is a mistake. Only one seems likely to have any connection to that world: the warlock, and he would probably sell her out in a heartbeat.
Finally she says, “Just looking for a fresh start is all.”
Conlaed walks near the back of the group. It's clear that walking doesn't agree with him, and while he doesn't complain, he seems not to be enjoying the travel. He often seems to be looking inward, thinking to himself. While he is friendly and ebullient for the most part when talking with the others, he keeps himself apart slightly. At Carmen's comment, he slips out of a reverie and laughs.
"Yep, that'd be nice. See somewhere new, try something new. And I like the idea of making the world a little bit safer, assuming we get paid. And maybe we'll find something a little more exciting than gold if we look hard enough. That would be just fine."
"That's Cozubia, Carmen, Mordekai, the flashy human is Lex, he's Conlaed, and I'm Iefyr!" he says to the fellow musician, Ezid, happily playing along right next to him. The half-elf listens to everyone's stories as they walk. His ears perk up when Conlaed speaks. He'd been curious about the quiet elf since the group had formed. "Hey! You wouldn't happen to be from the Silver Branch forest would you?" he says as he paces back a bit to the rear of the group.

Carmen sidles up next to Cozubia. "I really hope you find your friend." She pauses not knowing what to add to that statement. "Can I ask a favor?" she continues. "I would like to take a look around; I have eyes in the sky," and she nods up to a large bird flying overhead, "but in order to see through his eyes, my eyes and ears won't work. Could you lend me your arm for a moment so I can continue walking? or I can put my hand on your shoulder if that would be more comfortable..."
If Cozubia agrees, Carmen check out the environs using eyes and ears of her familiar.

"Wow, you got everyone's name quick there, mate! I'm sure not from there, though. I'm from just over in Port Haven. Not that far from home, really, when you think about it. Still, feels like a different lifetime already. The only interesting thing I've ever done before I got into that scrape with you all back there was wander around those ruins and find nothing at all but dust and broken buildings. I just know there's something interesting there, though. I had actually been going to look for some more information about the place and head back for a second try before all that, and it seemed like this was a better shot at finding out something interesting."
This is easily the most Con's said at once since the journey began. His face lights up when he's talking about his trip into the ruins. He trails off, though, as he hears Carmen again, talking about another kind of magic he hadn't known of. He waits, curious.

Cozubia nods and let’s Carmen take his arm, stating simply “Of course, Lady Carmen.” He watches and waits patiently while she uses her magic, curious of such fascinating things are even possible in the world.

As you place your hand on Cozubia for guidance, your eyes turn white as your owl streaks into the air. Finding your view now high above the rest of the group, you begin to survey the area. You see exactly why Golden Oak is named as such. The amber fields stretch for miles. The rollings hills are broken up with the occasional cluster of trees. You see the Nidle river flowing in the same direction as your travels. The occasional hoofed animal grazing in the fields. The only thing that catches your attention of something that is not common is a large gathering of ravens about 5 miles to the west. They are circling something on the ground but it is unclear as to what with the ravens themselves blocking it from view.

You have very little knowledge of Silver Branch. Perhaps the only knowledge you have of it is from travelings coming into Port Haven to get to Alune. In your family tavern you probably overheard elves talking about the majestic woods that surround Alune. These woods being the Silver Branch forest.
"Wow, you got everyone's name quick there, mate! I'm sure not from there, though. I'm from just over in Port Haven. Not that far from home, really, when you think about it. Still, feels like a different lifetime already."
"Ah, I see. I only ask because there are so many elves in the forest. That's where my tribe is from, on the edge, patrolling and protecting the borders. Funny that my father kinda does the same thing, and now here I am going to protect farmers from bandits." he says reflectively. Iefyr's glance trails up as Carmen's pet flies up and around, marveling at what it must be like to see from that high up.
Could I see the ruins at all through my owl or are they too far off?
Conlaed would have been able to share with you that the ruins are about 150 miles away. If you look at the map in the shared folder of Golden Oak. Each hex is about a days travel ~25 miles.

Carmen's eyes return to red as her vision returns. "Certainly is pretty countryside," she says and releases Cozubia's arm, "Thank you so much, sir...Looks clear all around, no sign of more goblins, or anything. Well, there was a bunch of ravens circling something a bit to the west. Couldn't see what it was. Not sure if it we should check it out. Whiskers will keep an eye out and warn us if he sees anything."
"That's great; it seems incredibly useful. Your bird's name is Whiskers? That doesn't make any sense. What's he like?"
"Well, he's a whiskered screech and other times he's a cat, so Whiskers. Silly, I know, but I gotta call him something," Carmen answers. "I don't know how far I would have made it on the road if i wasn't for him."
"He does what? He's not really an owl, I guess? That's incredible. You can see what he sees, when you do that? It might be really easy to find some bandits, then!"
As the group continues to travel, days begin to pass as they head north towards Wayfield. As you begin to find yourselves more familiar with each other, you come across another group of travelers headed south. You see two elves, an aarakocra, and a halfling. They are walking towards you as you hear them sing a jaunty tune.
"Hey folks!" you hear from afar. Upon them getting closer, you notice that all four of these people are wearing what looks like rugs for capes. Each cape has an insignia sewed on to it.
One of the elves holds out his hand and says to all of you, "Thank you for your tribute." He stands there waiting for you to pay him.
Yawning, Mordekai scratches at one of his tight-woven horns and leans forward toward the, frankly forward elf asking for money. For tribute? For having honor of passing by? Tell me, comrade, for what service shall tribute be used for? He eyes the... cape(?) and hopes to get a look at the insignia to see if he recognizes it.
Ezid would walk out from the group, taking out 20 gold pieces, 5 gold for each of them, and hands them to the elf, "There you go, you look like you need this more than i do". Ezid steps back towards his companions, smiling towards the group two elves, halfling and the aarakocra.
