The party arrives by the river bank at D1.Thick fog hangs heavy in the air, obscuring the area around you so that the world appears to have shrunk to only twenty feet in all directions. Before you, the waterway widens and the current slows, giving the impression that you have entered a lake. Croaking voices penetrate the fog, through which dark shapes appear, resolving into two rowboats. Manning the oars of each rowboat are two bullywugs.
All four are dressed in soiled garb typical of members of the Soggy Court. In croaking Sylvan, they say, “Welcome to Downfall, travelers.”

It takes Valrieth a moment to realize that she wasn't just hearing a wordless croak and could actually understand what they were saying.
Not knowing whether Finley or Gan-Re speak Sylvan, Val replies for the group in her best Sylvan, "Thank you, and well met! We are the Torilian Trio, and we have fought through obstacles and mortal danger to get here, the largest and most prosperous village in Hither!" She holds out her hand to indicate Finley and Gan-Re, "Um... I do not know whether my friends speak Sylvan."
Switching to Common, she says, "Do you also speak Common?"
One Bullywug clears his throat an says "I do and we greet the Torilian Trio. Our King Gullop XIX would be honored to make your acquaintance. Join us on our boats and we can take you to the docks and from there you can head up to the Gazebo (D6)" in a very thick croaking accent
Gan-Re replies in Sylvan to the Bullywugs "Good to meet you, I am Gan-Re" He then continues in common "Thanks Val, I don't think Finley can speak Sylan, can you Finley?"

Valrieth looks to the other two. She tilts her head questioningly and shrugs and asks, "I guess we should go meet King Gullop XIX?"
If neither of the other two objects, she goes to the first of the boats to pull up on the bank. She thanks the bullywugs who are rowing that boat, hops aboard (Acrobatics3), and takes a seat.

(OCC: Oops!) Val tries to hop into the boat, lands awkwardly as the boat rocks, and falls with a splash into the river. She wades back onto the bank, dripping wet. Embarrassed, she apologizes and tries to shake some of the water off of her robes. Hopefully, the others help her into the boat this time.
"Th' only fey speech ah can do is elvish." Finley gives a slight grin and moves to help Valrieth back out of the water, "Careful there, Lady Valrieth, ye don't have yer sea legs just yet!" He smiles warmly at her and looks to the bullywugs. "So we're ta meet royalty so quickly? Ah assume that they are as benevolent and kind as ye have been then, aye?"
"Of course. Do you need help getting into the boat?" says one of the Bullywug
With some help, Valrieth (presumably) manages to get into one of the boats. (Acrobatics15)
She sits meekly in the boat and looks with interest at anything they can see from the boat (other than fog) as they head to the Gazebo to meet the king.
The Bullywugs takes the Trio to the small docks at D2
"Sorry there is no place to dock at the Gazebo. From here you can head across the stone steps (D3) and over to the Gazebo (D6)" says the 1 Bullywug that can speak common
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Once back on land, Valrieth takes out her notebook and takes a moment to start mapping Downfall (or what they've seen so far). While Val doesn't have a proper set of cartographer's tools, she should be able to make a notional map of the locations and their relation to one another.
(OOC: Do we see or hear any bullywugs other than the ones in the boat? For example, are there any on the platform for the balloon (at D2) or at the stone crossing (D3)? Perception8 Aside: is the bullywug or bullywugs the plural of bullywug? )
If there are no bullywugs nearby, Val says quietly to Finley, "I guess this is where Sir Talavar got his balloon ride," as she points to the balloon tethered near the docks. "Hopefully, we won't have to escape Downfall the same way."
Gan-Re has a flip through his new book of fairy tales, but doesn't see anything on Bullywugs. There is a story about someone trapped in a tower with very long hair, "They really needed an Aarakocra" thinks Gan-Re.
He tries to remember something about Bullywugs from the old stories his mother used to tell, in particular what sort of things they like and how to behave in front of a king.

"Ah don't think we'll have to do th' same thing, but my word ah think I'd enjoy riding in one of those. Gan-Re seems to have fun zooming around everywhere while we're here on the ground." Finley thinks for a moment, "Although it would be kind of nice to use one to make sure we don't get flooded out again if it were to happen."

Val sees 2 Bullywugs and 2 giant toads guarding the balloon in case someone tries to steal it. There is no one on or near the stepping stones.
Head to the stepping stones D3 when ready. A row of boulders spaced two feet apart breach the surface of the lake to form a walking path across a forty-foot-wide waterway.

Once Valrieth is done with her notebook, she puts it back in her backpack. She calls out to the balloon guards and asks in Sylvan, "Hello! I beg your pardon, but could you help us? We were told to cross toward the gazebo there," pointing at the stone steps. "Are we just supposed to hop from boulder to boulder across the water?" She indicates her still wet robe, "Is there any trick to it? As you can see, I already fall in the water once today."

The boat is gone and is nowhere in sight and you don't need it anymore as the water level is not at flood level.
"Sorry Finley, the boat is gone. Shall we head off?"
