Take a journey to a dying world... With your ship sunk, you wake up on a lonely island, stranded in the Void Sea. Standard high fantasy (think Forgotten Realms), but with a dark twist.
I am looking for 4 to 5 players for this adventure.
Application Procedure: Please provide a link to your character sheet (we're starting at level 2, and you are allowed to start with one uncommon and one common magic item), and a few sentences describing your character's personality & backstory (keep in mind that the starting location for this adventure will be in a frigid archipelago just to the north of the mainland). Also! How did your character end up on The Star of the North (the sunken ship you were traveling on)?
The deadline for applications is Sunday, December 15th, at 12:00 PM PSTSaturday, December 14, at 10:00 PM PST.
For ability scores, I rolled two sets and chose one.
Backstory and Personality:
Amory thought she could save her family from ruin by summoning a fiend and taking its power. Though she succeeded in the summoning and the pact, she failed to stop the fiend from burning down her family's estate, leaving her as the only surviving Lavenza. Amory has sworn to use the fiend's power to send it back to hell, if she can ever track it down. Her most recent lead has brought her to the Void Sea, far to the north.
Amory is kind, curious, and polite. She loves to read and study magic. Although she feels tremendous guilt for her family's downfall, she would describe her infernal pact as a "90% success" and is pretty confident she could get it right the second time.
Cobalt is a Genasi born from the frozen tundra of the north. He's a calm and collected druid, accustomed to the frozen lands of his home. However, as the once frigid lands start to warm up for an unknown season, a seer warns Cobalt that the key to saving his home and the various polar animals within dwells in the Void sea. Without a second though, he started his quest, boarding the ship before its inevitable demise
Zerel was born into a servant family in a royal court but saw no reason why he should be content with serving. He managed to climb his way up the social rankings of the court through a combination of blackmail, flattery, and general politicking. Along the way he found he had a natural talent with the rapier and used dueling as yet another means of social-climbing. He also learned a bit of magic (took the Magic Initiate feat as his Variant Human bonus feat) from a Fiend-Patron Warlock who taught him to blend magic with bladework.
Unfortunately Zerel's temper got the better of him recently and he ended up killing a noble in what was supposed to be a duel to first blood over an insult. On the run for his life he impersonated a noble to gain passage on The Star of the North. The Warlock who taught him his spells gave him a magic sword and stone he claimed were a gift for him from the Warlock's Patron, the Archdevil Levistus.
Zerel is ambitious, affable,, and ruthless. Quick to seize opportunities, he's willing to partner with others for mutual gain. He prefers to talking things out to fighting, but seeks to ensure that if violence ensues it’s as one-sided as possible in his favor. He'd rather make an ally than an enemy but will switch from flattery to threats in an instant and kill without remorse if necessary.
I'm planning to take the Swashbuckler subclass at level 3 and took a moon-touched rapier as the common magic item and a stone of good luck as the uncommon one. The Levistus connection doesn't have to come into play in the campaign, I just thought it worked with the theme I'm going for and I'm fine changing it if necessary.
Osmund's stout silhouette cast a short but respectable shadow against the pool of light spilling from the cracked door to the Star of the North's warm and cheerful galley. The pattering sounds of laughter and scraping spoons were just giving way to the comfortable strumming of that elf's cracked but serviceable lute. He frowns and grips his pipe a little tighter in his teeth, sucking in and mulling over the events of the last few days as he plants himself on the ship's worn but sturdy deck.
It's not so bad a place to cool your heels after that mess in Darkwater. I suppose I'm just lucky - assistant ship's cook on this old tub is clean work, even if it is a bit boring.
He can't help but chuckle at the memory, however, of his shining hour in the ring - the crowds, the energy, the rising tension. All the money in the world wouldn't make him back down from that match... which is a shame, since he did in fact owe a small percentage of all the money in the world to his creditors, much of which he only realized after betting big on that last match. At least smallfolk make for small targets, he thinks to himself, his frown reasserting himself. A feeble voice starts a song behind him in the pool of light, and Osmund shivers, his thick overcoat holding back the elements but not covering his wiry muttonchops, which were already frosting over with spray. With a sigh, he turns back into the light, a pile of dishes and scalding hands to look forward to. Above, the clear night sky gleams with countless stars.
Thanks for reading! Hope this will suffice as a fitting character introduction/rationale for being on the ship - the young pugilist, fleeing poor decisions and an unpayably massive debt.
Tiberious Figg is the sixth son of a powerful and wealthy nobleman. At the age of five, being long down the list of ascendency to his fathers title, he was sent north as a pious offering to the church. There he was educated in books and combat and compassion and now he strides forth to do good deeds and bring glory to the name of Figg.
Tiberious is dandy. Raised with a silver spoon. With his tailored cloths and that stupid blue hat that he's so proud of. He doesn't notice how out of place he is. He's a tall skinny boy with a sword. Almost a man but not yet. Gangly and youthful and kind and brave and innocent. He's a naive optimist who may get lucky and end up being the most unlikely of heroes.
Backstory - (Elle) Elminster Quandrix is the son of two prestigious professors. His early years consisted of his parents trying to teach him magic. Elle found it nearly impossible to follow his parents' daily lessons on magic and the weave. When Elle was 17 years old he had his first breakthrough. He managed to summon a familiar which he calls archimedes. It was at this point that Elle's parents left to explore the multiverse telling Elle to continue his studies in order to learn more about magic. After they left Elle realized that his magic did not come from his parents' teaching but from his connection to the Seldarine Pantheon. After talking with his familiar he decided that he should travel the world to understand his connection to this power better. Elle decided to travle north to search for the ruins left behind by the giants who ruled the ancient empire of the North.
Personality - Elle is young and lacks the focus to pay attention to his surroundings. Elle always has his head in a book which leads him to be naive about others.
Suregood is a monk, but less the "mystical grandmaster" and more "Physics is ****ed on this world". He's a survivor, a fighter, and a fierce friend. His stoicism and readiness make him a nominal travel companion in such a grim world.
Thereax Guldeer took command of the warship, Gnasher, several years ago when her father was slain in a duel with an admiral in the Navy. The young half-dragon is merciless, and her greed is as strong as that of any red dragon. She alone can sound the dragon’s horn, a monstrous instrument mounted to the prow of her ship. When blown, it roars like a massive dragon. Gnasher is crewed by uncouth humanoids who fear and admire Thereax, amounting to twenty-three orcs, forty goblins, four hobgoblins, twelve kobolds, and two bugbears. An ogre named Yem serves as the ship’s first mate, and Yem’s method of discipline tends to be fatal. A red dragon’s wing emblazoned on a black background flies from the mast of Gnasher. Saltstrider was part of the crew when Thereax’s father was Captain. When Thereax took over all the original crew was replaced! Saltstrider being a strong able sailor (background) found her way onboard The Star of the North.
Thanks for the opportunity, let me know if 2024 is a no go.

Santos makes his living as a guide, spending his days working with merchants, adventures, clergy and anyone else that may need a hand getting from point A to point B. He received a message that his services where needed in another town, a merchant eager to carve out a new pass to open his trading lanes. The employer had paid his passage on The Star of the North . Not much on sea travel, preferring solid ground under his feet, it came as no surprise when the vessel ran into trouble, never trust a sailor he thought to himself as he gathered his gear and made for whatever means had been provided for abandoning the ship. Santos is accustom to working with strangers, leading a group of greenhorns into the unknown and, over the years, understanding his role should the situation resort to violence.
Karina is a devout follower of Lathander, the God of Light. Given to the temple at a young age because her parents could not afford to feed another hungry mouth, service to her god is all she knows. As a result, she can be somewhat naive and sheltered from the ways of the world. She wants nothing more than to help people and believes that is her purpose in life. She harbors a fear of abandonment though, as a result of what happened to her as a child. Karina booked passage on the Star of the North, because she received word from a northern town that requested the services of a cleric, as theirs had recently passed away from old age. Eager to see more of the world, Karina quickly agreed to journey north, but little did she know she would never make it to her original destination...

I prefer 2014 rules at the moment, but if you're interested in using 2024 magic items / objects I'm fine with it as long as it's backwards compatible.
Background: Fergus had always dreamed of the arcane, sure he was destined to be a great wizard. He studied for years under masters but none were ever willing to take him on as an apprentice for his lack of books smarts, and lack of drive. Fergus is what most would consider a dreamer and not a realistic one at that. So he took jobs in the litchens to be close to the greats. Until one day Fergus had had enough and stole an item that was supposed use to help make a person smarter. Not sure what else to do he signed up as a cook on a ship looking to set sail. Eventually finding himself as a cook on the The Star of the North as he tries to practice his magic on the side.
"Drogomar Murginak - My name is no jest, beanpole. It's all very well to have a short name when you're twenty feet tall, but small people need large names to give them weight. I am Drogomar the Magnificent. Short in stature, tall in power, narrow of purpose and wide of vision. And I do not travel with peasants and beggars. Goodbye!"
Drogomar was very young when he tagged along with a band of deep gnomes to sneak up and pillage a town close by. Unfortunately, Drogo got confused and lost... eventually being left behind by his pillaging 'brothers'. So, Drogo was left to fend for himself in the back alleys and streets of the city. Being so small, he could hide in cracks and small spaces so the other 'street vermin' could not (alway) reach him to steal what he had stolen. In time, he actually got pretty good living by his wits on the streets.
Until he made a mistake and got jumped by a crew from the top thieves guild. Beaten, battered and nearly broken, Drogomar's rag doll body was stumbled upon by a person of magical skills. He took Drogo in to heal and, eventually, apprentice as the deep gnome seemed to have a knack for magic in it's many forms. Time passed. Drogo healed and learned - until that day when his Master and Mentor walked Drogo to the door of the tower and bid him 'explore the world and it's magic'. Dumping all Drogo's possessions into a bag of holding and wishing him all the best as he slammed the tower door shut.

What sources are allowed (and is homebrew allowed) and how should we generate ability scores (rolling, point buy, array, etc.)?
We'll be playing 5e. As for sources, the 2014 core rules and expanded rules is what we'll be using. I prefer no homebrew.
And when it comes to ability scores, you can use whatever you like! No preference from me.
DM - Adrift in the Void Sea
Okay, I'll try for the roll 2 sets of ability scores and then pick one or use point buy then if that's alright.
Is Dicecloud okay for character sheets? I don't own all the books on here.
And are approved 3rd party sources like Grim Hollow okay?
Sounds good! And yes, Dicecloud is cool with me.
No on Grim Hollow, sorry. :( I'd prefer Wizards of the Coast material only.
