I am a fairly new D&D player, and I would like to try out a campaign idea I have been working on. I have a general idea, but I will be improvising a lot, and sort of using the direction of this play by post adventure, to create a less improvised version to use for an in person series in the future. Players may choose any of the races and classes in the players handbook, and you may start at level 2. This campaign will be very role play heavy at first, but dont worry, it will not be void of combat. Serious players only, as I would like to keep it moving at a decent pace. I would like you to plan on at least 1 post per day, every other day is fine, but if you cant post once every 3 days please find a different campaign. I myself, am willing to post all day, every day, so as long as everyone is keeping up, we will continue at a steady pace. Please post descriptions of your characters, and comment on each others character descriptions to show me you are serious and can maintain regular dialogue at an acceptable pace. Looking forward to seeing where this goes :)
You have spent your entire lives in the great city of Absoli. The massive city and surrounding wilderness occupy a large island, about 200 miles east to west, and 300 miles north to south. The city itself is about 25 miles east to west, and 25 miles north to south, situated on the southeastern coastline. The waters that surround the island extend outward nearly out of view, and curve upward, creating an oceanic sky, completely encompassing the island and all of its inhabitants. According to known history, the island is all there has ever been, and none have every ventured beyond the watery barrier. It is a widely accepted belief, that there is no existence outside of this world, though some far fetched tales have been told. While exploring the market district of the city, the party members witness an elderly man being shunned by the masses for proclaiming he received a message from someone beyond the barrier. As he is escorted away by the city guards, you hear him shouting, "I can show you! I can show you! We are not alone!". What do you do?
A squat, weathered dwarf called Terrance Fimbulvinter (Hill Dwarf/ Tempest Cleric) saunters up to a local observing this scene. "Where do you they take people like him, mad men who claim to have heard from beyond the great walls of our Lord." His deep blue armour and snowy white hair are reminiscent of a cresting wave, and the rumble of his voice brings to mind the thunder that warns of a storm. "These blasphemous accusations need to be properly addressed so as not to sow dissent amongst the populace." He deftly slips the local a coin as the man tells him the location of the guard house, clearly this man knows that it is wise to avoid antagonising any such creature that is as heavily girded for battle as this small but powerful figure carrying a large warhammer with the symbol of his god embossed on the side.
(I have never played a pbp game before but am very interested in being involved, I have previously run a campaign and played in person. If you are interested I would appreciate some information of the Gods of your world particularly those that fall into the tempest domain.)
Stats should be 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 and be mindful of backgrounds that do not fit the secluded island universe plot. sailor can still work, because there is a lot of fishable ocean surrounding the island. and who knows? maybe you sailed all the way around, crossing what would be the sky. think of it as the inside of a sphere, rather than the typical outside crust of a spherical planet. also there is wilderness, so you dont have to be someone who lives in the city. just remember that something brought tou to Absoli's market district.
(( I have proposed using a Half-Elf Life Cleric, or a Half-Elf Rogue, though I haven't decided which to use. Just to make note! And I'll adjust their stats to fit the Standard Array, no problem. ))
If you still plan on committing to play, please post your Character Name, Race, and Class then we will get started. Its ok if we end up with duplicate classes.
i am going to be pretty open minded in this campaign, because i am still building it and the direction you guys take it is going to help me figure out exactly what i want to do with it. which, i guess is what a good DM is supposed to do anyway so yea...
The White Wolf, aptly named for the furry cloak he wears, is a young, scrawny man. He bears no apparent weapons, and seems to have all his worldly possessions strapped to his back. The battered gear doesn't amount to much. Beneath the cloak, you can see that his wrists are wrapped with red thread, a symbol of Ilmater. He steps forward, but seems too hesitant to approach the guards directly.
He presses his hands together. "Perhaps the man is simply ill?" he says in a soft voice.
my only limitations on Gods are Gods that have specific dominion over places that "do not exist" to the people of Absoli. Because remember, the entire universe as we know it, is this island and the city.
Just visting the market to buy some fresh fruits, Ducolis sees the commotion in the corner of his eyes. Interested to see what is going he approaches a bystander and asks what is happening. The bystander tells that that the man was saying he recieved a message from beyond the barrier. Now Ducolis was definitly interested. He decided to quietly follow the guards to where they were taking the man. Which was difficult considering he was a somewhat well known gladiator.
Ducolis is a triton of rather large size, but average for the people who lived in Absoli. He has blue-grayish scaly skin and purple hair. Ducolis is young but has shown skill wielding the trident in the arena. Being able to float for short amounts of time was definitly helpful in the pit. Ducolis wasn't sure how he got this power but it may have had something to do with the storm where he was seperated from his family and which led him to Absoli.

Okay! Ilmater is the god of suffering, so I'd imagine that would fit just fine.
I really like the kind of... reverse fishbowl idea. It's fun!
