Custom Rules
Long rests: As opposed to regaining all lost HP after a long rest, characters instead regain only half of their lost HP. This benefit only applies if the injured character or a friendly character succeeds on a DC 10 Medicine check, and only if they possess the necessary materials (For example, a splint to treat a broken leg).
Short rests: A character may only roll hit dice if they or a friendly character succeeds on a DC 10 Medicine check, and only if they possess the necessary materials (For example, a splint to treat a broken leg).
Damage: Whenever a character is dealt damage, they will recieve an appropriate disadvantage according to the type of damage taken, in addition to HP reduction. (For example, bludgeoning damage might result in a broken leg, which subsequently reduces a characters speed value)
Permanent Conditions: When a character is reduced to 0 HP they fall into unconsciousness and must make Death Saving Throws until stabilized. After a character is stabilized, they remain unconscious for 1d20 hours, and when they regain consciousness they will suffer a permanent negative effect according to the type of damage which reduced them to or below 0 HP. (For example, if a character is reduced to 0 HP after receiving bludgeoning damage, they might be permanently crippled.)
Aiming: A character may declare where he attempts to aim his attack before he resolves the attack action (For example, a character with a longbow declares his intention to aim for the eye of the eldritch horror). If the attack equals or exceeds 20 for a close combat attack or 25 for a ranged attack (known as the Aim DC), then the damage will be inflicted on the location that the character aimed for, and their enemy will suffer the appropriate penalty as explained in Damage above. If a character exceeds the AC of the monster they are aiming for but not the Aim DC, damage will be inflicted on a random location.
Stan Castle (5'10", 150 lbs, Pale Skin, Dark brown hair, grey eyes, 35 years old, distinguishing feature - previously broken nose not set properly)
Stan is a down on his luck gambler. He has a penchant for strong drink and a bleak outlook on life. He believes the world has cheated him of the fortunes he dreamed of winning as a younger man. He relies on card counting & sleight of hand dealing, as opposed to bluffing. He is not unattractive; but simply doesn't care enough to use his personality. He is always looking for an ace in the hole. He's not opposed to settling arguments with his fists when the need arises. He travels from town to town & makes his living in games of chance. He often plays an honest game; but has been known to cheat in desperate situations. He usually moves on before the local authorities come looking.
Skill Profs: Acrobatics (Good for getting out of tight spots), Athletics (Same), Gaming Set (Playing Cards), Investigation (Card Counting), Perception (Reading People's Tells), Sleight of Hand (Card Tricks/Cheating), Medium Armor, Simple Weapons, Martial Weapons
Saves: Constitution, Dexterity
Rapier, Dagger, Darts (10), Chain Mail Shirt, Explorer's Pack, Pouch, Clothes (common), Gaming Set (playing cards)
Hair: Dark, long, and wavy. A strip of prematurely gray hair runs down the left side of his face. Hair is pulled back into a ponytail at most times.
Eyes: Probably green? He wears a mask at almost all times.
Build: Average
Height: 5'5"
Weight: Approximately 130 lbs
Age: Somewhere between late 20's and early to mid 30's
Clothing: Hooded cloak for travelling pulled over animal hide that serves as his armor. Sleeves are mid-length. He wears a bracer on one arm. Almost always wears his pack on his person. The sound of bottles clinking can be heard inside when he moves.
Personality:
Leo has a cheerful outlook, even if he does seem gloomy at first glance, what with the mask and all. He enjoys helping people who need it, and has been travelling around tending to the wounded human casualties of the battle between Heaven and Hell. Lately, he hasn't been able to save as many people, but he tries to push through and face every trial with a smile. For some reason, Leo fears the higher-ranking human authorities. When asked about it, he merely responds with "I've had bad experiences in the past," and dodges the remainder of the questions. He manages to survive off the kindness that people show him, and when that isn't an option, nature will provide. Leo has crossed many battlefields, which is where he picked up his shortsword. His spear he carved himself, using a dagger he purchased when he first set out on his own many years ago. When he is not helping someone, he is often look for herbs to use in his poultices and remedies.
Proficiencies: History, Investigation, Medicine, Sleight of Hand, Survival | Herbalism Kit (I had to force this one in, since it says it's a tool but it doesn't come up in proficiencies.) | Simple weapons, medium armor, shields
Equipment (Starting with 100 GP): Explorer's Pack (-10), Shield (-10), Hide Armor (-10), Shortsword (-10), Herbalism Kit (-5), Healer's Kit (-5), Dagger (-2), Spear (-1), Fishing Tackle (-1), Common Clothes (-.5), 5 flasks and 1 piece of chalk (no value- subtracted remaining 5 silver for a nice even number). Remaining GP: 45
Lumin has been an on-again-off-again bounty hunter who grew up as an animal wrangler, even worked for a circus for a brief stint, and uses those skills to compensate for his slight build. Lumin values hard work and is willing to sweat. A bit eccentric, he is fairly talkative, with eyes bouncing from object to object, but he tends toward awkward phrasings and excessive punniness (mostly for his own enjoyment rather than others).
Hair: Short and black, which he wears in a taper cut.
Eyes: Greyish-Blue
Skin: Pale
Build: A bit thin and lanky
Height: 5'8"
Weight: About 150 lbs
Age: Early 30's
Look: Hubert always wears a pair of rectangular glasses, as well as trousers, a white shirt, a tie(if ties exist in this time period), and a long lab coat(or equivalent to a lab coat).
Personality:
To the onlooker, Hubert seems like your classic mad scientist, attempting to return those that should be dead back to a foul semblance of life. However, he is actually a very good hearted person, who is trying to help in the best way he can. He hates that other people don't realize that what he is doing is a good cause, but accepts that it is inevitable. He perseveres anyway. He is a shy, timid person, with zero social skills. However, if you can see past the crazy mad scientist exterior, he is a bag of flesh, organs, muscle, and bone. What did you expect when you looked past someone's exterior?
Backstory:
Hubert East's childhood was mostly uneventful, he never really had any friends, and spent his time inside, reading, as he was born into a family wealthy enough to be able to afford such a luxury as books. He later grew up to attend a very good school, where he trained in medicine for a long time. However, he had the knowledge, but he just didn't have the skill to save lives. His careless mistakes led to more than one person dying because he couldn't save them. Because of this, he was given the nickname, "Hubert East - Deanimator." After an unsuccessful medical career, he thought to himself, "If I can't stop people from dying, I'll just have to bring them back later." Hubert didn't believe all this hubbub about souls and the afterlife and whatnot. He believed that the human body was a complex organic machine, one that could be restarted. And so began a long journey of studying and experimenting, all to no avail. However, Hubert was not a quitter. He continued his studies, only to find himself rudely interrupted by eldritch horrors streaming out of the pits of hell. Quite annoying!
Grungle- tall man. 6’2” 210lbs. Short dark hair, dark eyes, and light tanned skin
He was a simple farmer in his teen years but when marauders killed his family and burned his home he left the farm. No real direction in life, he uses his size to work odd jobs usually as a body guard or a bouncer for rowdy taverns. He is just trying to get by and survive.
Grungle enjoys small talk with others but doesn’t really make friends. Something of a loner. He will help others but not at the cost of his own neck. He follows the law but only to stay out of trouble.
6'1' 185 lbs. Tan skin. Brown hair cut to a medium length just off the shoulders. Dark brown eyes with a slightly dark green hue. Conrad is a well built, attractive young man with a charming smile and defined jaw line masked by a slight 5 o'clock shadow. He would be considered "easy on the eyes" and catches the attention of all the ladies when he enters a room.
Conrad is a traveling musician and entertainer. He travels from town to town sharing music and stories with the local townfolk. When first entering a town, he visits taverns and learns about the population. Conrad is quick to listen to others and their stories, but keeps his personal history to himself and often lies about his past. Conrad also enjoys the company of female companions and uses his charm to bed them. While on the road, he travels via his horse, Rhyme, and enjoys fishing and hunting. Though not a skilled swordsman by trade, he has grown adequate with his shortsword and can use it to protect himself while on the road. Conrad has not totally abandoned the notion of having a "higher calling" or "greater purpose", but he enjoys his current lifestyle of travel and adventure.
Zahim (5'6", 120 lbs, Pale Skin, Brunette, Blue Eyes, 26 years old, ) Zahim is an old brawler type who would more or less just fight for fun and was a real good shot whenever any sorts of threats that would come along
