You all go downstairs and open the door you think leads to the basement. For your surprise it's not what you've been expecting. The kitchen, gloomy as it might be, is tidy. The shelves are neatly stocked with dishware. The worktable has been wiped clean, a cutting board left behind as the only oversight. The iron pipes of the oven snake out like a willow tree caught in a windstorm, twisting up and into the ceiling. The door to the pantry hangs ajar, and a dumbwaiter sits in the corner, its gate yawning open. There's a door in the northern part of the room.
The dog still follows you, keeping a safe distance.
Reshi stops in surprise at what he sees, “Well, this is not the way to the basement.” He turns to go back out of the room. “I suppose we should try the other door.”He smiles awkwardly, slightly amused at his own stupidity.
You open the last door in the hallway and you find a closet, stocked with several black cloaks. Someone's left a top hat on the high shelf. Fancy

Garren Concurs: "Yes, I do not feel we are seeing the entire picture here. The strange, ghostly apparitions, scared children, who, I might add, are nowhere to be seen, parents who we seem to be unable to find or even verify the existence of... This is all too peculiar".

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“The basement could be hidden?” Reshi replies to Garren. “Perhaps we could ask the children outside?” Reshi waits on his companions, watching and listening for anything.
You open the last door, revealing a pantry. The pantry is cramped, and well-stocked. Casks labeled as "wheat" and "ale" sit at the far-wall, next to a sack of old potatoes. There are pouches with dried jerky, nuts, seeds. An entire shelf is devoted to spices, with three racks. The Dursts, you notice, are out of salt.
Garren is disappointed by not finding any doorway, but waits for Simon's attempt to work. However, if it fails, he considers the wisest action to be going outside and talking to the children.
You give the dog the hat and he comes closer after a bit of hesitation. He smells it for bit and then reluctantly starts moving towards the stairs. He goes up and then into the library, where he starts going in circles, obviously waiting for something. Probably for other food.
Reshi follows the others down to the first floor and up to the door they presume leads to the basement.
“Shall we?” He looks at the others than opens the door and walks in.
"If you would," Simons says, keeping the dog under close scrutiny to determine it's reaction to entering the basement.

"Perhaps we should investigate the door in the kitchen," Simon suggests, dropping the dog another piece of dried meat and leading the way.

Garren responds:
"Well, let's try this final door on our current floor, and, if it leads to a cupboard or something similar, then go outside and talk to the children".
"Agreed," Simon replies, following Garren to the kitchen.

Struck by a flash of inspiration, Simon runs to the coat closet and retrieves the hat. He holds it out to the dog.
"Can you lead us to the owner of this hat?" He whispers. Animal Handling: 3

Simon sighs in frustration. "That was of no help. Where do we go from here?"

Reshi follows after Simon and the dog. Seeing the dog go into the library, Reshi takes another close look at the room.
“If he is looking for food, why go to the library? We did open the pantry for it...”
(Not sure which one I should roll here?)

Afterwards, he turns back to Simon, “We can always go out and ask the children.”
Simon ponders this comment for a minute.
(Are there any windows in the house? And if so, do we see the street or town outside?)
