Carefully, with Hildigrim and Jorin (with his Light-ed axe) leading the way, the group crosses to the small pile in the northwest corner. Mortimer moves between Hildi's feet and sniffs and pokes and prods as you go. Finally, at the pile, the cat and Hildigirm, with a whispered blessing from Drusk, begin to examine the items.
In the pile are seven gems of different kinds and cuts (none of the sort special to Lliira), four varied bottles of mysterious liquids, and a book.
No traps.

In the pile are seven gems of different kinds and cuts (none of the sort special to Lliira)...
(OOC: That is the great thing about Lliira. She is about Joy and Celebration, but she is also about Fortune. I have an IC reason to have the Life Cleric be the first one to say "he loots the bodies." )
Drusk puts the gems into his backpack, to be divided up later. "All gems are sort of special. One of them may help Criella pay to have this place consecrated, to drive away any remnants of the past evils done here... When we return to the surface, I will use theDetect Magicritual on the gems and anything else we find down here."

Jorin peers over Hildi, holding the glowing axe high, as he goes through the piles. "Those are fine gems indeed. They would make for great weapon inlays. Perhaps our friends up top could tell us more about the book."
Jorin picks up one of the bottles of liquid, swirls it around, then takes off the stopper and gives it a smell.
The seven gems are worth about 50 gp each. Drusk has them secured.
The bottles, when sniffed and tasted, turn out to contain magical potions. This much you can tell immediately. Two of them are the same kind, the liquid red and shiny, and the taste rejuvenating. One other is in an opaque flask, smells bad, and makes the taster feel invigorated. And the final bottle contains a red liquid that seems to pulse, and makes the taster feel a little confined in the small space of the dungeon.
The book (assuming your Languages are current and accurate on your character sheets) is written in a language none of you can understand. But when Hildigrim goes to turn a page in frustrated fascination, Mortimer hisses, and paws the page back to where it was, scanning the words intently.
Edit: I didn't realize that potions already have descriptions. Edited for that.
OOC > I say pish tosh to the RAW "taste and know what a potion does," so you get those hints above. Enjoy. Do tell me who carries each of the red shiny potions, the red pulsing potion, and the smelly potion. After some down time you can know more, if you remember to ask. ;)
"I am more familiar with home remedies, less so with magical potions. The rest of you can hold onto those flasks, until we get back to the cottage and carefully test the contents.
"This is a big room. Unless we have reason to suspect a secret door somewhere, it would take a lot o time to search everywhere. Should we head back south, to the secret door we know about?"

OoC - Wait, there is RAW that lets you know what potions are just by tasting them?? Jorin was doing it just because tasting random stuff is what he does, lol
Jorin licks his lips after tasting the red shiny potion and drops one in his pocket. He puts a hand on his chin saying, "It's not sah-key, but it is not bad. I'll keep a hold of these until we can look at them more upstairs. Seems like the door to the south is the way go, aye Drusk."
OoC part duex - As an aside, when we head back through the passage, Jorin will stop at the size of the cube and reclaim his handaxe. Also, he will search the bits of stuff that got collected in the ooze for anything interesting. I vaguely recall a mention of floating coins? I wanted to write this down so I didn't forget when the time came.
(In post 658, when the group finds "Jorin's pitted hand axe", I figured it was reclaimed at that time.
But I forgot we didn't check the remains of the hungry jello or the gray ooze for anything interesting. Yeah, should definitely do that.)

The party gathers up the meager loot, Hildigrim clutching the precious book (once Mortimer lets him close it) and you reconvene in front of the secret door (with the open hatch at your back, light coming in from above).
On the way back, Jorin fishes through the sludgy remains of the gelatinous cube and finds five gold pieces.
As you arrive, Mavis calls down the hole, "Hildigrim, would you mind passing that book up? Mortimer tells me it is written in Infernal. I can take a look at it while you all finish with the cleaning."
If you do hand the book up, Mortimer goes with it.
The secret door opens inward, and has no latch. With a testing prod, you see it is just a matter of pushing it open. The grinning skull carved on the door taunts you.
Jorin looks behind him and up into the light at the sound of Mavis' voice. "The cat told you?"
Drusk: "Reminds me of a financial advice group, which turned out to be a guy, his wife, and their dog. Despite how often people listened to and quoted this 'group', the advice was rubbish. They should have made the dog the president, instead of the guy."
