Skeekbad squints and reaches into the back of her cloak trying to find the right pocket. She sticks her tongue out and it looks like she's reaching into he back of her pants. She rummages around in there for a while before her eyes and ears perk up.
"Skeekbad has berries for Jallabillyjamaloo! Make hurt hurt not hurt hurt so bad."
The sun has set and as you approach the tavern again, you notice this is not in the best neighborhood, especially at night. It almost seems like a different area you're in.
Yelling and crashing can be heard coming from inside the tavern while standing outside. The streets here are not well maintained and litter blows around the streets. Three rough-looking humans, you assume sailors or pirates based on their garb, burst out of the front door of the tavern. One is almost the color of green you all are. He leans over an overfilled trash can and vomits into the street. The others begin to laugh as one slaps the sick one on his back and laughs.
Hanging above the door on chains is a wooden sign with "The Bloody Fist" carved into it.
When you enter, you see a rowdy bar filled with a mishmash of characters. Humans, half-orcs, elves, halflings, most of which appear to be of seafaring types. Behind the bar is an overweight dwarf with a handlebar mustache in a leather apron serving up drinks. Wenches move around the floor of the tavern serving up stews and large pieces of meat on plates. The window you broke out is covered with a few wooden planks.
As they move into the bar Wensa says to the others "Jallmur win fight easy. Humans already sick." She'll then go up to the bar and try to talk to the dwarf. "Goblins here for fight, win magic prizes."
The dwarf, who looks over the bar, laughs at you as the goblin posse comes in. You assume he's standing on some sort of planking that allows him to be at eye level with taller folk while he serves drinks. "A fight to win magic prizes? What kind of establishment do you think I run here. Prizefighting is illegal here in Waterdeep!" The dwarf makes a big show, throwing up his hands, like he is being watched. "Where would you even get an idea in your head that illegal fights go on here?" He leans over the counter so you don't have to yell over all the barroom ruckus. "I've already had the city guard in here once today snooping around. Someone broke into my place, or so they said."
Wensa gives the dwarf a very confused look. Then replies "Wensa confused. Paper say fight here. Goblins must get magic things." With that she pulls out the flyer and holds it up to show the dwarf.
The dwarf will snatch the flier out of your hand and light it on fire over a candle behind the bar counter before turning back around to you all. "Solvan! Solvan, over there. Tend the bar. It's time for me to do some work in the back." A young human dashes over to the bar and gets to work serving drink. "Well come on now. Follow me." The dwarf ushers you all into the north door by the bar. He pushes it open and allows you into the back. He glosses over the bar crowd one last time before entering the door, closing it behind him.
The dwarf stands tall, introducing himself. "I'm Oznac, proprietor of this here shady establishment." He looks you all over. "Now what do we have here? You're looking to win a few of tonight's prizes huh? Good ones tonight. Cost me a little more than I normally spend on prizes, but there are some high rollers here tonight. Can't say I've met many goblins willing to enter the rage cage." He gives you a smirk. "I hope you know this is a fight to the death. And not just one. You're going to have to face a few competitors, if you make it that far."
"The fight is about to start here soon. Couple of rounds of combat to the death and you win the prize. Simple as that. Also, put on a good show now, these people want to see blood. Some of the best fighters come here to fight. It's not so much about the prizes, they don't hurt, but it's about the betting. There's money to be had if you can pick the right fighter."
"Looks like you brought enough in your entourage for the competition, luckily for you."
"Which one is your fighter?" He looks over at the barbarian. "My money is on you, son."
"Which one is your promoter, hype man? You know, the one that pumps up the crowd!"
"You better have a "cutman." That's the healer between fights. Better have a good one if you want your fighter to survive. Only one pers..... goblin can be a healer so pass all the good to the healer before we go down."
"And last but not least is the trainer. Someone to prep the fighter before the fight and give tips and such. The trainers some times alter the uh, stats of the fighter by magical means. This is a violation of the rules, but if you're not cheating, you're not trying."
"Anyways, how did you all get a hold of that flyer?"
"Which one do you want to do Wensa? There's not much more I can do to improve his abilities, can you help him? I have illusions and detect magic that might be useful for finding magic items. We should decide when to give Jallimur potions and or alter self."
Opening her mouth to reply to Gizzmo Wensa glances up at the Dwarf. "Oh-sack wait one moment? Goblins talk." Pulling the others aside Wensa starts whispering to them quickly and quietly in goblin. After a bit of chattering and sly chuckling, the goblins group a bit tighter together and start passing things between themselves. Eventually turning back to Oznac "Goblins ready now. Jallmur will be fighter. Wensa be hyper pumper. Skeekbad cut mans to heal Jallmur. And smarty Gizzmo be cheater."
Jallmur just watches with a slightly confused expression as all of this happens
"Okay... Gizzmo is 'coach', Wensa is hype-goblin, and Skeekbad be slicey-healer."
Jallmur takes the goodberries that Skeekbad gave away and tries to hide them somewhere that is easy to reach. He also slaps himself on the chest to test the mage armor.
Oznac leads you through the kitchen to a mostly empty room with a wide shelf and a door. The door has a pivoting wood plank to secure the door and a peep hole slider. You assume you are below the storeroom based on the fact the lift has been lowered, leaving a square hole in the second floor. On the west wall is the wide shelf. The shelf swings open to reveal a wide set of stairs leading down in an L shape. Once you pass the secret entrance, you can hear an even more rowdy crowd coming from below.
Anyone with arcana check (DC 12) assumes there is a spell to block the sound coming from the basement area.
When you enter the basement, you enter the reception and weapons storage area staffed by two armored orcs. "You're going to have to give up the weapons. Can't have anyone killing my customers," Oznac says. "The fighter can keep his weapons for the fight." Once you hand over your weapons, Oznac leads you into the main hall. There is a metal quarter circle cage on the far wall in the northeast corner with a door on one side. A bar with a halfling tending to customers sits across from the "rage cage." Behind the bar is a chalkboard with betting odd listed. To the south is a gambling area with a card table and a roulette wheel.
You can see three other teams of competitors scattered around the main floor of the hall as well as two other armored orcs acting as security. On the west wall is a small alcove with a door made of metal bars and a heavy glowing padlock. You can see behind the door is the cloak and ring on display.
Oznac makes his way to the front of the rage cage. He rings a bell on the outside of the cage to get everyone's attention. "Welcome everyone to Fight Night here at The Bloody Fist! Do I have a treat for you tonight! A late entry into tonight's bout! A team of green skins looking to win tonight's prize! That's right! A team of goblin bashers here to win the cloak of protection and ring of protection!" Oznac points to the bar. "Last call for bets. Fights will begin in 5 minutes when the competition starts!" Oznac rings the bell signaling the fight will begin here soon.
The other fighters you can see are:
(1) Arathra Durhig, a male human in padded armor with a rapier and daggers. He appears to be a pirate based on his garb.
(2) Dorethau, a female dwarf in chain mail with a long sword and a handaxe attached to her belt. She appears to have previously been a soldier.
(3) Sabretha, a male elf in chain mail, shield and a mace. With the holy symbol he wears around his neck, he appears to be a paladin.
(4) Jallmur
The first fight will pit fighter number 3 and fighter number 2. The second Fight will be between the two others that were not drawn.
Anyone wanting to do anything before the fights start?
Skeekbad struts into the room behind the others with her back straight and her boar's head slightly off-kilter atop her own. She encourages her team to walk around the ring together for safety, but also to get a better look at the crowds, the ring itself, and their opponents.
Skeekbad tries to get a good look at the support teams of the other contestants while trying not to get smashed by any potential cheaters from their teams or the crowd. She also keeps an eye out for any advantage that Jallmur might be able to gain from the cage or terrain inside.
Wensa looks over the other three teams to see if she can see what kind of tricks they might have readied. Then looks over the crowd to try to get a feel for the energy of the room.
Skeekbad
Skeekbad squints and reaches into the back of her cloak trying to find the right pocket. She sticks her tongue out and it looks like she's reaching into he back of her pants. She rummages around in there for a while before her eyes and ears perk up.
"Skeekbad has berries for Jallabillyjamaloo! Make hurt hurt not hurt hurt so bad."
She hands him pouch that holds 10 berries.
