Having escaped the madness underneath the Sands of Ascore with a teleportation circle, Hox, Gruun, Therien and Zane found themselves in the city of Sundabar. It didn't take long to discover that the city has been placed under a complete lockdown. With nobody able to enter or leave the city, Therien took the body of their fallen companion Fargim to try and find a temple for preservation while the others walked the city in search of repairs, equipment, and information.
Hox, Gruun and Zane settled in the slums for the night, at the Firestar Chariot Inn, where they met Marc Dustblade and Killian Joy.
The Firestar Chariot Inn has seen better days. The disrepair and aging fixtures can be noted with a simple glance; from the squeaky floorboards and worn out tables to the broken window panes. With Sundabar in lockdown, the customers have dwindled to a few regulars and those unlucky enough to be stuck waiting for travel to resume. This is the perfect tavern if cheap spirits and inconspicuousness is desired; especially in a city where kobolds and bugbears are not always welcome.
Our Party:
Gruun Dendweller: Bugbear Barbarian (Path of the Totem Warrior) Hox: Kobold Rogue (Assassin) Killian Joy: Human Paladin (Oathbreaker) Marc Dustblade: Human Ranger (Gloom Stalker) Zane: Tabaxi Bard (College of Lore)
OOC: Take a moment to introduce your characters to each other and bring the new characters up to speed on your prior adventures. How did Marc and Killian end up in Sundabar during the lockdown? How did Gruun, Hox, and Zane connect with them?
Once introductions have been made, I will provide a more detailed description of the vicinity.
At a back table in an already backwater bar, a young woman sits, the remains of a meal and several empty shot glasses before her. She looks tired. Her skin is pale, her dark hair hangs straight, and her shoulders slump. She wears a dark cloak that might once have been black over clothes and armor of indeterminate quality. A long, plain sword hangs at her side, and a scarred shield sits beside her small pack. It looks like she's been here a while.
She looks up as new people come in, her piercing blue eyes a challenge. But as they turn away, she looks back down at her empty table again.
... is confused. Just flat out entirely out of sorts. He's a tabaxi, scholarly-looking, but also carrying a couple of instruments absentmindedly. Halfway through a meal he mutters half to himself, half to others close by, "You found me as a stone? I have heard of such magic, but it is permanent, it cannot be turned back."
"What year is it by the way?"
Then looking around and wanting a second opinion without waiting for the first one he turns to a young woman at a back table, "Excuse me, miss. What is the current year number if you don't mind me asking? You see I was traveling and was capture and then these fellows over there found me as a stone. I have no idea how long I was a statue, but the world looks markedly different from what I do remember."
...sits in the tavern enjoying a meal his skin slightly darker than normal his eyes blue with a hint of purple. Looking up at the group entering he's curious how these new people entered the town. Marc had barely made it into the city before they shut the gates looking for work once more he so far has been earning his keep as a bouncer for The Firestar Chariot for a simple meal some drink and a room he just had to tell the drunkards when it was time to go. He continues his meal drinking from his tankard continuing to stare at the new group.
The woman looks up at the Tabaxi's question, glancing at his companions at their table. Her challenging stare softens at the cat's obvious fluster, but her voice is still cold when she answers. "The year is <<insert year here>>. You've picked an inauspicious moment to land in Sundabar." She raises an empty shot glass to the empty room, and waggles it. Seeing no service (or poor service) coming her way, she pushes back her chair and moves to the bar with her empty glass, looking to get it refilled.
Standing, she is over six feet tall and built to fight things, though both aspects pale next to the bugbear, of course. She evinces no interest in the other party members, at the moment.

Gruun lets out a low growl to those with their gaze lingering on the Tabaxi. They were both out of their element but, their group had journeyed so far mostly unscathed and Gruun would keep it that way. He keeps an eye on his fellow Kobold and has made of show of talking to him, ensuring people know he is not alone.
The hulking bugbear hardly blended into the crowd. The wise refrained from bring attention to him. Gruun had the size and shape of a bugbear but his past showed through in his features. His fur was thicker than most and coarse. The front of his face and jaw protruding sightly and his ears rounded unlike most of his kin. He wears a bearskin cloak and Greataxe slung at his side.
"I have told you before, we found you and the Drow as statues. I have no clue how you were there or why you came to life. Perhaps Bartle or whatever creature that was could know but he left us in that place. I would rather go back to the angry den of Kobolds where we took their gem before venturing into those cursed halls. Killian have you heard anything about the lifting of this ban? I am weary of all these people and no trees."
He nods to Marc across the room, glad he has had no run in with the human. He enjoyed the drinks but his distaste for being uncoordinated kept him from having any run ins so far.
She turns sharply at Gruun's question. "Do I know you, bugbear?" But then she shakes her head, turning back to the bar. "No mind. There is no word on opening the gates, and mostly rumors on why they were closed. Plague. War. Famine." She doesn't seem much turned off by those prospects. Taking—and paying for—the entire bottle, she carries it and her refilled glass carefully back to her table, but she turns her seat so she can see the group better. Seeing the ranger across the room as if for the first time, her eyes narrow. Then she looks back at the party. "You three are a strange lot," she states, slugging her drink.

Hox nods, "Gruun is true, we find cat rock and elf rocks. Then you all move again, but fight each other. Is strange magic like Bartle did, toad thing lord." Hox adds. Although sad to have lost his hoard, he finds that the place they were brought to is a bit more hostile to him than usual. Rather than sneaking about and trying for purses, Hox sticks with the group, seeing Gruun as a deterrent to those that would try to harm him. Hox scratches at his blue scales, adjusting them to his new armor he...bought. Hox can't help but try to spot out the people in the tavern, easy pockets and loose purses.
Through the broken front windows, painfully bad poetry can be heard emanating from across the street. The inn has basic tavern fare, and makeshift reconstruction is everywhere; the second floor of the inn can't even be reached from the inside.
A blind dwarf wanders into the tavern, cursing something about "two-face bastards...Master's Hall..." He finds his way to the end of the bar, ordering a mug of ale from the large human tending the bar. "Richard...have Cookie bring me out some meat," the dwarf grumbles.
A pale human with sharp features and carefully combed dark hair sits in a corner of the tavern, and two humans whisper something about "doors..." at a table in the center of the room.
Her eyes follow the dwarf, and one hand curls protectively around the bottle in front of her. Other than that, she's not too interested (or maybe she has a crappy Perception...).

A diminutive half-elf enters the tavern, quickly and quietly, walking to the blind dwarf at the bar. He pokes the dwarf's leg, holding up a small box.
"Bah!" the dwarf shouts, then takes the box and offers, "Thanks, boy."
The half-elf leaves as quickly as he entered.
Tracking: The other patrons in the inn are a human man tending the bar, a blind dwarf sitting at the bar, a pale human man sitting in the corner, and two human men sitting at a table in the middle. There are two doors in the inn, one behind the bar and one exiting to the street, from where bad poetry can be heard emanating.
She pours herself another shot, but doesn't drink it. Yet. Something in the back of her mind is suggesting that she might want to keep her head clear. Ish.
OOC > She's been here a while, and might need to make skills and attacks at Disadvantage. Con Save to see? Or, why yes, definitely Disadvantage! DM?

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hox perks up at the sight of the blind man's package. He waits until no one is really watching him and ducks under the table. He'll try to stick to the shadows and approach the blind man stealthily.
OOC: No disadvantage for Killian yet, though feel free to play up her foggy mindedness.
Hox approaches the blind dwarf unseen, though the man in the corner has a vantage point that would provide him sight on anyone in the tavern. A half-orc emerges from the door behind the bar, carrying something vaguely resembling meet to the dwarf. "Thanks, Cookie," the dwarf mumbles before digging into his plate.
OOC: Don't feel like you need to post conservatively, this is pretty open ended so don't hesitate to start conversing or exploring.
Zane, amidst the confusion of his mind understands what his companions are up to as well. He pulls out his flute and says, "I wonder how my beloved instrument fared the years of being a stone?!". And starts to, overly loudly, check the tuning of the flute.
She winces at the Tabaxi's tuning, turning to look at him with one of those looks that says, Really? Must you? taking her eyes off the kobold and the other patrons in the process.
OOC > Yay! The distraction worked. :)
