The chamber is filled with noises. Cries of complaints against guilds, accusations, blame, and more ring out as the workers there tirelessly try to deal with them all. The only quiet place in the building is the office of the living Guildpact, which lies empty and seems to be starting to build a fine layer of dust. The workers on the other hand, move quickly, trying to preserve the fragile peace between the guilds. Employing all different types of guild members and freelancers to ensure that the guilds cannot control the outcome. And due to such freedom, an inn has been established nearby the chamber. Housing many freelancers, guild members, or other kind to lodge them for the night. The chamber is a popular place to meet along with the area being a well established neutral area for the guilds.
DM Note:
This thread is where the non guild adventurers may introduce their characters along with finding work. The inn does have a tab system where it will take a part of your monetary reward but leave other material rewards alone. Renown does apply to their characters but will only apply to the Chamber as your level of reliability. The functionaries there will post jobs and requests from the public and the guilds. As well as asking certain characters for a task that needs some discretion from the guilds.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The average looking John had been here a couple of times a messenger, though this time was different. If it wasn't for his massive height as a human at 6ft he would probably blend into the crowd easily. Today was the first day as a freelancer - he had saved up most of the money from the jobs he had done and was able to barter or buy for equipment that was clearly previously owned. His face, dirty from being someone born and raised in the sixth district, has an unusually cheerful smile painted. If people couldn't tell that he was new just from that the clumsy way that he walked from having his crossbow at his side along with his longsword giving away that he was right side dominate. Across his back a greatsword hung with the handle slanted to his right side. He just took a deep breath wiping away some of the brown hair that had gotten in the way of his face, his skin a holding a nice tan of someone who spent most their time outside.
He muttered a little pep talk to himself under breath "Today is the first day of your new life John. You got this just walk forward and don't accidentally bump into anyone that could kill you - hopefully you're in the right place." and began to walk forward through the crowd. His blue eyes scanning the area for how exactly to start this life as a freelancer. "Does anyone have any jobs that need to be done?", "Freelancer for higher here.", and "Will work if you have jobs." all timidly escaped him as he wondered around unsure how this all worked.
"Sir? Sir!" Someone starts to yell from behind the front desk, John sees an office worker waving towards him. "You don't need to ask around like that sir. My desk specializes in handling contracted individuals for work. Basically, any freelancers come to me and my coworkers." The lady is of elven descent, very pale but sharp facial features. She has her hair done up in a bun as she smooths out her uniform before offering a hand towards John. "My name is Mivata, are you perhaps new to freelancing?"
I feel my face heating up knowing the hue has probably turned slightly red from the embarrassment as my attention is drawn towards the elvish woman. I just hurry, clumsily, over to the elven woman. "Oh..." I held out my hand to take hers gently and shake it in introduction. "...well that simplifies things. My name is John Raven, it's a pleasure to meet you Ms. Mivata. I am in fact new to freelancing and could definitely use some help on how to get started in this business."
"Pleasure to meet you as well, Mr.Raven. Well to get things started," She takes a thick tome out and opens, penning something into it, "I'll add you to the list of freelancers that work with us. Along with giving you a bracelet that'll signify your association and rank with the chamber." She sets a iron link bracelet with a small pearl onto the counter. "For jobs, you'll normally ask us unless we ask you first. Oh, and before I get ahead of myself, do you currently have a place to stay, Mr.Raven?"
I just grab the bracelet and place it on my wrist smiling a little as it finally hits me that this is it. "No, I don't have anywhere right now. If you have any recommendations though that would be great." I say just smiling.
"I'd recommend Madam Qunor then, she's the nearest inn to the chamber and we do have a system of where we allow freelancers to stay there on a tab. The tab covers for both rooming and provide meals for you, while the jobs you are take will have a small cut to help pay the tab. I can relay a message to her to ready a room for you if you'd like and do you have any questions?" Mivata answers precisely and professionally.
I just smile at her, honestly I didn't expect everything to go this easy for me on the first day. "Thank you for the reference I'll gladly take a room there. If you wouldn't mind that would be great, I guess the only question I have now is - do you have any work for me? I'm a little eager to get started working." I knew my voice was probably giving me away with how eager I was to start, but it didn't matter. I was ready to test myself in this life.
"Of course, there's plenty of requests available as well as our own requests. In fact, I believe we should start you on an easy assignment. We just need you to assist the Izzet to recapturing one of their escaped experiments. It should not be fairly dangerous and an simple task, we just need to make sure that the experiment doesn't harm the other guilds or citizens. That is all I know of for the request, I'm sure the Izzet members would know more once you meet with them." Mivata says "Would that be alright with you?"
"That sounds good to me. Will I be meeting them at the guildhall or somewhere else?" my fist clenched a little to get rid of the nervousness that crawled up inside of me.
"Oh no, the request comes from an supervisor. You'll be meeting them at their workshop in precinct 5. Take a ride from Augustus station over in precinct 2 and they'll take you to 5. I can hand you the address for the lab." Mivata writes on a small note and slips it to you, "Precinct 4 is a bit too harsh for new freelancers, once you have some more experience we'll let you handle jobs from there."
I just take the note and take a quick look at it, after putting it in my pocket I looked back to her and smile "Consider it done. Thank you for all the assistance, I look forward to working with you." With that I turn and began to walk towards Augustus station.
