background: criminal ( he is a cultist in disguise)
backstory: Iados is part of a cult that is trying to summon juiblex into the mortal realm and he has been sent on a mission to collect information on a forgotten ritual to summon the demon lord juiblex into the mortal realm, but I am planning to slowly change his alignment as he meets and adventures with the rest of the party and sees the good in the world.
also, you are welcome to incorporate the cult and such into the campaign, in fact, I'm hoping you do it will add a really cool element to the campaign.
I have played play by post before and it is very fun. I have been playing D&D for 3 or so years
I can absolutely respond once a day I have nothing better to do
I love the mechanics of D&D and being able to be someone your not is so cool to me
Character Name: Dylan Bladebender Race/Class: Level 1 (Planned Subclass, though I won't hold you to it): Human Paladin (unknown oath at this stage); swashbuckling style. Background: Noble (with a bit of Criminal thrown in) Backstory:
Dylan is the second son of Lord Bladebender of Waterdeep, a minor noble. Dylan didn’t want to follow in his brother’s foot steps as a court fop, so headed off up north to seek a way to make his name. In Neverwinter he fell in with a thieves guild and learned some new tricks. He became their face, and used his noble upbringing to get himself into all sorts of fancy places. He’s driven by fame, not fortune. The more notorious the quest the better. The more famous the patron the better. Now with a degree of experience to his name and a desire to become a legend, he’s returned to Waterdeep. Where better to make a name for himself than the Yawning Portal?
Player experience with D&D and PbP: 40+ years of D&D face to face/table top and online. A few months of PbP which I'm really enjoying! Able to post at least once a day? Absolutely What do you enjoy about D&D? I enjoy all three pillars a lot, but I think the main thing for me, which overarches all, is character development. I love to see my PCs evolve in ways I planned but also ways I never expected.
Just an update everyone: I'm in the process of actively moving now so any answers to questions will be significantly delayed. I am liking the applications though! There are still currently 8 days before I close recruiting and start choosing players, so keep the applications coming!

Salazar - Human Warlock of the Fiend (1) - The Lucarcian Incident
Shepherd Torrent Brallern Water Genasi Druid (1) - Ekuepool
Celeste Belle - Air Genasi Mutant Blood Hunter (1) - Old West
Race: Eladrin, Elf Class: Blood Hunter - Order of the Lycan (most likely, can change though. Was going for a Werewyvern with the backstory) Background: Waterdhavian Noble Backstory:
Retrospectively, Gaèls existence was simply meant to be an adornment. His birth was the result of a political maneuver, a plot to strengthen the recent entry of a very few non-human families into the status of nobility. Laying the foundation to both expand their hegemony and secure their financial wealth, the uprising House Holimion, known for their outstanding understanding of the trade market, was united with House Thiannôn, the latest established elven nobility, paradoxically acquired due to their impressive capabilities regarding the processing and commercialization of precious metals.
Following the marriage, four new waterdhavian children became witnesses to the union. Born after his older brother Galador and his elder sister Galaria, Gaèl grew up knowing that the most important positions in the hierarchy of House Thiannôn were already filled. The firstborn Galador, doing his best to live up to the high expectations raised to him, was plagued with as many subjects as the educators could pummel into him and even Gaèl had to admit that he was a good fit to be the successor of the House.
Galaria, his older sister, showed an early talent in the study of magic and was one of the youngest members ever to be accepted into the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors, thus adding another glimmering light on the sky of the Houses progeny. Finally, Gaèls younger sister Galathae showed an outstanding light-fingeredness at various musical instruments, but even more impressive capabilities as goldsmith, thus representing the finest successor to learn the houses secret arts and techniques that had helped it ascend to wealth and power.
And then there was Gaèl. First described as a squirrelly and way too curious for his own good, he was not exactly a concern, and lacking any of the obvious talents his siblings had shown, he had no chance but to appear a failure. Even though his educators openly admitted that the child was definitely smart, they would state that the main problem be his interests were lying in the wrong areas. Which to him, just meant that they were the next bunch of boring adults who had lost all interest in the fascinating aspects of the realms. Gaèl was curious, yes, and in a way that could not be satisfied just by burying his nose in old doorstoppers.
He wanted to do, experience things himself. It was most notable whenever he was allowed to visit the arena. While he was fascinated by the monsters the gladiators we’re facing, watching the fight really wasn’t that exciting to him. He would’ve much rather stood in the ring himself.
Gaèl had the tendency to solve all his equations so annoyingly quick his supervisors had to find other ways to occupy him. The most efficient way to keep the live wire quiet seemed to be to just tell stories, but of course they never even touched on the things that Gaèl was actually interested in.He wanted to hear about Xanathar, Tiamat and the Undermountain, and not the uprising of the workers in the silver mines in 1137 DR. His desire to explore the surroundings and the urge to discover soon made him sneak out of the Thiannôns premises at increasing tendencies, and since the staff was busy educating the prospering geniuses that were his brothers and sisters, Gaèl was only caught much later, when his excursions that had long passed the borders of sea ward. After his bruises left him unable to sneak back into his room following a brawl with a bunch of urchins in Downshadow, Gaèl was finally branded the black sheep of the family that, as he felt, he had unofficially been his entire life already anyway. It was plain unfair. No one even talked about how he’d almost hold held his own in a four on one. In any case, from then on, Gaèl meant trouble. Which in some way was a relief; since everyone seemed to have given up on him anyway, he found himself with a lot more time on his hands to do what he actually wanted.
Sometimes alone, sometimes accompanied by some similarly snoopy friends he’d found in House Stormweather, he continued to dive into the streets of waterdeep, hunting down urban myths in the City of the dead and trailing the secrets people tried to bury in the northern ward. His capers, growing more and more venturesome over the years, got him into serious trouble more then once, but especially these ones were the ones that turned out to be informative, sometimes even rewarding him with intel that prove beneficial for the houses affairs. But of course there could be no praise for information uncovered by such questionable means, and just like he had received the least extraordinary name out of all the four young Thiannôns, he did feel the least appreciated. Which he found unfair, as he was the only one who was really working for what he was earning, while everyone elses path was prepared for them external forces.
Nevertheless, the feeling of neglect only stimulated Gaèls growing urge to gain approval. He wanted to force everyone to acknowledge his efforts, driving him even more extreme. And it seemed like he would finally get the chance to do so. Around the time he grew out of his teenage years, a series of terrifying murders brought the city of splendors to quake. Not only was the city watch unable to determine the identity of the culprit, the incidents appeared to heap up both in the south and the north of the town simultaneously, and then began to make their way towards the castle ward, leaving a trail of terribly battered corpses. What began as rumors anxiously spread by the poor people of the streets, soon became a topic of heated discussions behind closed doors even for the nobility. Was it an uprising of the Underdark? A hideous ploy of a noble competitors to cause trouble? Or did something finally escape the depths of Undermountain and began to lash out at the foreign world build atop its darkness?
Whatever it was that was ravaging through the city, Gaèl was hell-bent to be the first one to resolve the mystery. His ears deaf to the warnings of his concerned sisters, he hurled himself into the depths of Waterdeep, his ambition fomented now that people suddenly got involved and payed attention to him. He spent weeks exploring, trailing and introducing, and after an eternity of fruitless efforts and sleepless nights, his patience was rewarded when shadowing a conspicuously inconspicuous figure along the castle ward.
Or rather, he witnessed an incident that would deeply scar him in multiple ways, changing his life forever. Just as he was about to give up the chase, the cloaked figure in front of him set foot on a plaza, and then a series of events happened one after another in rapid succession. The cloaked muttered a word, almost like an incantation. As if appearing out of thin air, a terrifying creature half spider half scorpion, appeared right while crawling down from the walls of an adjacent building. As if he had waited for this to happen, the figure undid its cloak and started transforming, what had looked like a man just seconds earlier, was now taking on large scales, covering his arms, legs and torso like an armor. His head extended, his hands grew dangerously looking, foot long claws, and then he began charging towards the abomination that had just reached the ground. The man, now rather resembling a large, two legged lizard than any humanoid being, gave off a howl that made Gaèls blood run cold, he felt a fear so strong it almost made him turn around on the spot and dash away, but somehow he managed to snap out of it. Before him, an intense fight erupted between the two abominations, however it remained weirdly soundless, although the stings and claws were clashing again and again. What first seemed like an even encounter soon saw the reptiloid stumble as his foes apparently poisonous thorn managed to scrape through one of the scales on his body. Gaèl, who had grasped that capturing and interrogating the somewhat human person fighting such beasts would be much easier to present to the noble lords than bringing them the weird arachnid he stood no chance against anyway, felt rather unpleased by this turn off events. He began to think of a way to take action, but he would have to intervene in a fashion that allowed him to save his skin and still profit from it. But just in that moment, the man began the stumble, the spider was preparing to take the final strike. Casting all caution in the wind, Gaèl rushed onto the plaza. Facing the spider from behind, he used his momentum to pinpoint his rapier right into the seemingly unprotected abdomen beneath the sting. The beast spun around, slashing him with one of its too many legs, and Gaèl found himself flying through the air, as he felt his rips breaking. But it seemed like the split second had been enough to make a difference, the lizard man rose back on his feet and, with a series of ferocious strikes, finally ended the multilegged creature.
But now, the man started pacing towards Gaèl instead. Overtaken by fear, he tried to get back on his feet, but his legs would not move. It was now that he saw the mans face clearly for the first time, just like the rest of his body, his face was distorted, human traits blended in with almost draconic features, glaring purple eyes, and ridiculously sharp teeth. An unintelligible sound erupted from his throat, he trembled on his feet and for a second Gaèl thought he’d break down, leaving him a chance to get away. But the man snapped out of it. He made his way towards him, stopping right with his face in front of Gaèls. He stared at him like that for what seemed like an eternity. Then, just when he began to stagger again, he darted towards him, his mouth wide open, and his razor-sharp teeth dug right into his shoulder. Gaèl cried out in pain, the world began to fade into darkness around him, then the teeth suddenly let go, and the man slumped to the ground.
He didn’t remember what exactly had happened after that. Somehow, he’d managed to get up on his feet again, deeply disturbed. Lead by a suddenly awakened instinct he’d dragged himself through abandoned passages until he finally collapsed somewhere in a dark corner. When he woke up again, he felt…weird. Something felt off. Apart from all the intense emotions that had rushed through him that night, there was something inherently different to it now. He slowly began scanning his body for the wounds he’d obviously taken, but his rips seemed fine. They didn’t hurt at all. Same for the shoulder, there was blood all over his doublet, and his fingers soon found what felt like a serrated scar, but overall he seemed okay. While still trying to grasp how all of this was possible, his eyes wandered around the cave-like opening he’d found himself in, now realizing it wasn’t some dark alley after all. The place was stuffed with cupboards, all sort of books and scriptures lying around, funnels and vessels all over a table in the back, and glasses containing all sorts of organic items.
Gaèl had found his way into the shrine of a blood hunter. Spurring his innate curiosity, he began digging into the lair of knowledge right away, unable to stop himself. At some point he found a diary and started piecing things together, finally making sense of the events of the last weeks. It had not been just one thing haunting Waterdeep, it was two. One was the beast that was now rotting away in Castle Ward. The other, had been a seasoned blood hunter that had started losing control over himself. A werehuman. And while trying to annihilate the threat he had identified roaming the city, he had left behind a very similar trail of corpses.
When a loud growl erupted from his stomach he realized it must’ve been days since his last meal. His pockets empty, he had to return home. And while he was climbing into his premises, for the first time in ages, he found people waiting in his room. His brothers and sisters, his parents, almost everyone except for the head of the house was there, the atmosphere thick with sorrow. The city watch had identified the family crest on the hilt of the rapier, the weapon that was found on the corpse of the creature in the castle ward. And right next to it, the unrecognizable remnants of a humanoid corpse, so strongly vitriolized they could no longer be allocated to anyone.
At least, he thought, they really seem to be sad about it, while he slumped onto the floor, interrupting the silence. Now adding another, much more awkward silence on top of the sorrowful first one, the people spun around, obviously puzzled as to how this was possible. But while he was trying to come up with a justifiable story for the events of the night, Gaèl reluctantly had to admit to himself that the unwilling praise he was finally receiving was for something he had never actually done himself. That he actually did not deserve any of this. But it helped him to take a decision. He had finally found something he wanted to do. Something that was actually useful. Something no one could possibly deny, although no one seemed to know about the secret profession called “blood hunters”.
After that day, Gaèl spent his time hidden away in the secret shrine, studying and discovering the material of whatever type he found. He equipped and prepared himself, ultimately undergoing the ritual of the Hunters Bane, to become a Blood Hunter himself. And then, when he felt ready, he set out again. Like he had not done it in a long while, Gaèl was back on the streets listening to rumors, investigating, trying to find his first real case. His family didn’t know about the darkness he had thrown himself into, and he would do his best to ensure they never would. They would only learn about his accomplishments. And while he was out roaming the streets like this, a figure approached him and handed Gaèl an invitation. It was said to be from Volothamp Geddarm. It said he had work for him. A smile whisked across his face. And then he began heading towards the Yawning Portal.
Player experience with D&D and PbP: Been playing D&D with friends in a couple of homebrews, probably spend most of the time D&d'ing in PbP campaigns though. Able to post at least once a day? Very much hope so, otherwise i wouldn't be applying. What do you enjoy about D&D? As probably obvious at this point, half of all the fun is already the character design for me. I love diving into the settings, to come up with characters that fit into the world. I want to play a character that feels authentic with the surroundings and has a reasonable motif to join the adventure, so that playing the actual character also harmonizes with whats happening in the world. If you have a good base, its much more fun to have interactions within the campaign and to see the characters grow.
Orphaned as child A sole survivor of rockslide Damian, was found by a Dwarven Couple traveling by. Knowing they would out live him they began to teach him the skills of blacksmithing at a early age. At the age of eight he made his first shield; he learned quickly and soon he began making armor just as good as his adopted parents. Impressed they decided to teach him about Mordain and his blessing to the forge. In time he would gain his blessing become a cleric and traveled the land in pursuit of making the ultimate armor.
Player experience with D&D and PbP: I have been playing 5e since 2015 and dndbeyond in 2017. I would say i am an advance player.
Able to post at least once a day: I can post a few times a day depends on work and if it gets busy ill post once im off or on lunch.
What do you enjoy about D&D: I enjoy the social interactions, that's why I played, but over time I like the story telling and character building.
I AM STILL INTERESTED IN THE GAME BUT I WILL WITHDRAW THIS CHARACTER. I will post another Idea AFTER WORK.

I really hope your move is going smoother than ours... we just got told that our hire car does not exist, got refunded our money without permission, and told to look somewhere else. we have to hand over the Keys to our house in about...19 hours.

I AM STILL INTERESTED IN THE GAME BUT I WILL WITHDRAW THIS CHARACTER. I will post another Idea AFTER WORK.

Alright
Born of a human adventure and a drow scout, Alek had to grow up fast in the underdark. His mother she taught him how to harness the power of shadows. She was strict but kind unlike most drow maybe that why she killed during a scouting mission. With no one to help Alek he was forced into slavery. After a few months he escaped and ran into another drow who used the shadows to his advantage. The drow claimed he knew his father and he was to get him out of the underdark. He learned that this drow was a friend of his fathers and that his father saved him and his sister. They helped him to the surface and his sister had a baby. Learning he had an uncle Alek decides he wants to learn how to harness the power of the shadows. A decade later Alek has been smuggling goods into and out of the underdark. Earning enough money he leaves in search of his father, who currently leaves in waterdeep.

I really hope your move is going smoother than ours... we just got told that our hire car does not exist, got refunded our money without permission, and told to look somewhere else. we have to hand over the Keys to our house in about...19 hours.

Good Lord that's frustrating. Everything has actually been going smoothly for me here since I got here... But getting here was a nightmare
