I swear I searched for this so apologies if it has been answered somewhere already.
AL says 5 hours to trade an item. These 5 hours represent finding the person you are trading with.
If you do a multi-trade with that same person is it really still 5 hours per item? Seems it would stay per trade as you have already found this person and they had more than one item to trade. Maybe that makes too much sense for AL. :)
The "fluff" of any description doesn't really come into play and the fluff about finding someone to trade with doesn't exist in the current version of the players guide.
The players guide contains only the following comments on trading:
"Trading permanent magic items with other characters in theForgotten Realms campaign is on a one-for-one basis ofequivalent rarity. Certificates (if present) must also betraded or destroyed."
"Trading Magic Items.Whenever you trade a magic item, you spend 5 downtime days."
There is nothing about finding a person to trade with or any other role playing element. The AL cost to trade a magic item is 5 down time days/item traded, they are traded one for one and must be the same rarity.
Downtime in AL is a character resource like any other that can be spent on a variety of activities or items at a stated rate. In this case, 5 downtime days/item traded.
