Have not played since before latest updates to the game. Read through the AL player's guide. I'm unclear on starting equipment. Can I choose the gold option when building an AL character or must I take one of the other options?
I checked the base value of a fighter's starting equipment and it comes out to the gold piece value listed. Does AL then let me take the gold or must I take the starting equipment, sell it for half value, then purchase what I want for the character?
A level 1 character can choose the gold option from the background and other character creation options. (Note that you have to use the PH2024 and associated backgrounds). The gold amount is fixed and does require rolling dice (unlike the 2014 version).
Keep in mind that a level 5 starting character (according to the ALPG) explicitly receives the starting equipment plus additional gold for starting at level 5. They don't seem to have the option to take the starting resources in gold.
