I have a 15th level v.human storm sorcerer 14/tempest cleric 1. She is a Season 8 character and I've converted her to Season 9 guidelines.
I think I have a pretty good handle on how to convert everything (including the painful process of temporarily losing my legendary Staff of the Magi).
One thing I want to have confirmed by the experts regards Story Awards from previous Season or Convention adventures.
My PC has a number of story awards that I want to keep in play for Season 9. The two most valuable awards are:
Story Award -- Faction Favor - enables a faction to cast Raise Dead on Ophelia's behalf. (Reward at the conclusion of "Once in Waterdeep."
Story Award -- Noticed By the Gods (charity reward) -- during a session in which your character has perished, you may use this story award to receive the benefits of True Resurrection. You do not require material components for this spell.
Will these awards remain with my PC in Season 9 and onward?
Story Awards are Story Arc specific so do not carry from season to Season though DDAL makes this vague and confusing. For Example. The Story Award from DDAL 08-00 Once in Waterdeep is for completing the introductory module for Season 8 and for use only in storylines which take place in Waterdeep.
So As a rule, unless you are playing that character in the story arc (DDAL08 Series, DDHC-WDH or DDHC-DMM) the item is useless
No one from Waterdeep is going to travel to Avernus to raise someone. No one from Baldur's Gate will raise someone who did a favor that only affected Waterdeep.
So the answer is a resounding "Maybe" Once you leave a Story line, Story Awards are useless. If you return to the Campaign or Story Arc, then they are useful.
Thanks for your feedback. Then I can at least assume that my "Noticed By the Gods" Story Award remains with the PC, since it was gained through a DDAL Extra Life Charity Event/Epic, correct?
Yes, from what I've heard pretty much every charity reward is considered valid regardless of season. There might be some exceptions but you'd have to dig into some detailed errata to find that, and I doubt many AL DMs will harass you on that point.
That is correct. Any Extra Life Story awards are no campaign specific. but the DM has discretion on use. For example if you do something stupid and die as a result, the resurrection might take place after your party returns to you to town and no by immediately resurrecting you. Or if you do something brave that saved the party, the DM may have a wandering 20th level cleric just happen to be in the right place at the right time. It is always best to let your DM know you have a story award before the session begins, most are more then willing to work with you on using it, unless you whip it out and say "HA HA I can't Die cause I have this" From experience, I can tell you DMs are not fond of someone who tries to sneak crap into the game, even if it was legitimately gained.
