Currently finished up our session zero's for my new homebrew campaign, and as part of a PC druid (circle of wildfire)'s background, he has not yet discovered his potential to use his wildshape for anything other than his Wildfire spirit. Just wondering if anyone out there had any ideas to introduce the druids wildshape naturally. So far i've had a few ideas but they seem a little too generic such as:
The druid's spirit that lives within him comes to him in a dream, helping him harness his ability to wildshape
The druid rolls a d20 when summoning the spirit. On a 1 (or maybe 20) the druid wildshapes into a giant fire beetle or something along the lines of that.
Looking for any suggestions at all - nothing is too out there! Thank you :)
How about if the wild shape manifests itself for the first time during a stressful situation. Initially your Druid has no control over it, but eventually learns utilize the power when he wants to.
Druid is learned not innate, so why did he not learn this from who-ever taught him to be a druid? Was it taught to him but he couldn't quite get it to work and has just now figured it out?
As a child he was taught magic from his Gorsedd, and after a ritual known as "Day of the Green" - a ritual where the trees' would be infused with ever-growing essence from Bytholwyrdd Gorsedd (a place in my homebrew campaign) young druids of the Gorsedd would be taught how to Wildshape. The character was banished before he was taught the practice of wildshape.
You do bring up a valid point that I should discuss with the character, perhaps he has seen wildshape been used in his past and can try to attempt a wildshape in a desparate attempt to flee an enemy or something?

That is a very cool concept! I think I will most definately use this with the initial d20 roll I mentioned previously. Thanks for the idea!
Flynn was shown by his mam, a woods witch. She always told him his dad was a god and that's why shape shifting came so easily to him.
Make a 1 or 2 session long adventure revolving around a magnificent beast. The druid is inspired to make this their first wild shape.
The druid must hide from slavers, and turns into an animal they see as worthless.
Tarzan / Romulus and Remus story. The druid must learn the animal ways to be able to keep up with the pack.
