I enjoy D&D Beyond and just used it for the first time this weekend to play a new character using Beyond exclusively.
I did encounter a couple of challenges and couldn’t find any answers searching the forums and googling.
I’m playing a Moon Druid and use wild shape quite a lot along with summoning beasts, the challenge comes when trying to track the wild shape and summoned beast stats, HP and attacks.
Example Encounter: - My Druid summons 2x Brown Bears - My Druid uses wild shape to turn into a Brown Bear (or other beast) - Now I have 3 beasts (extras) to keep track off - Brown bears have multi-attack, so now I need to roll 6 D20’s along with different damage for each beast - All three beasts received damage and I need to track HP
As you can tell it can get pretty messy when it comes to keeping track and I need to keep a journal and do a lot of manual work.
So here are my questions:
- Can I track HP for my wild-shape along with summoned beast. I’m currently using the “extra” tab to have the beasts that are available to me and I know I can manage HP for one, but what if I have multiple of the same kind?
- How can I manage the attacks of the beasts? I don’t see anywhere to roll for hit and damage. If I need to roll for hit and for damage I need to roll 4x per beast for a total of 12 rolls per round which is a lot to keep track off. Is there some kind of trick to simplify this?
Personally I bookmark a copy of the creatures for easy reference. Alternatively, create and Encounter in the builder and assign the pets and wild shapes you use to it. Gives quick access to the statblock and you can use the buttons to click the rolls if you run the encounter. You could also use the HP tracker in the builder to track their HP individually. I find it handy.

Yeah just bookmarking the creatures you more or less regularly use and noting things down per hand if you aren't using a VTT like Foundry or roll20 is the way to go. DnDBeyond is okay as character creator but it's no good to actively track things during actual play if your character does more than the basics imo, especially when it comes to summoning stuff. DnDBeyond is no VTT replacement (yet).
Also it's honestly not THAT much manual work. Definitely much less than conjuring 32 raptors or so lol. If you think it's too much work, just think about how your DM has to do this much at a minimum for each and every single encounter as well and you don't see them moaning about it. 😉

I use roll20, and so along with it, the beyond20 plugin, which sends dice rolls from dndbeyond to roll20. but here's the thing - even if you don't have roll20 hooked up, the beyond20 plugin will still add dice roll buttons to those creatures in your Extras. so you'll be able to click the attack button for the creature, and it will do the roll for you and it will go to the dndbeyond Log.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

I've never encountered a forum where I got this many "talking to a wall" impressions as this one...

Thanks for all the help guys!
What I do is the pro gamer move of assigning beasts to my other fellow players after I have summoned them:
1) You have less work (shhhh, don't say that too loud 😁)
2) your turn is not that long anymore handling multiple pets
3) Your fellow players will be having the times of their lives fighting with a beast companion THEY can control!
