My spore druid is level 11, and all this time I've been assuming the temporary hit points disappear when symbiotic entity ends. According to reddit (and double checking the description) this is not the case. The text of Symbiotic Entity says:
You gain 4 temporary hit points per druid level when you activate SE.
While the feature is active, you also gain additional features.
Those feature lasts 10 minutes or until your temporary hit points run out.
This is a pretty huge buff to spore druid. First off, they don't go to waste, and secondly you can turn unused wild shapes into 4*level temporary HP when you go to short rest.
Thoughts? Anyone disagree with this reading of the feature?
No that sounds right; nothing in the description says that you lose the temporary hit points, only that you gain them, and that other features end if you lose them before the 10 minutes are up, so otherwise they seem to persist.
Just keep in mind that when temporary hitpoints do not have their own duration, then they will be lost when you take a long rest.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Ok, but here is another interpretation. When you gain temporary hit points from multiple sources, you can choose which source the hit points come from. The language for the spores is quite specific — the spores benefits end if you loose the temporary hit points you gained from the spores. So if I already had temporary hit points from an inspiring leader, false life, or armor of agathys I can make my spores last for ten minutes, automatically.

One for the dm but it would be at least as valid to rule if you choose to keep hit points from another source you are choosing to "lose" all the hit points from the feature and it would immediately end.
