I'm currently playing a wildfire triton druid, where his wildfire spirit is one of a remnant of a long dead primordial titan who fell in battle to the bottom of the ocean eons ago. Still decaying, sometimes portions of the titan (like semi-sentient blood cells) 'wake up' and will bond to the members of my tribe who prove themselves ready. I have more details of the tribe's culture, but what I need help with is my connection to the spirit itself.
How would you distinguish a wildfire druid's connection to their spirit from the bond that a warlock shares with their patron? From Tashas:
These druids bond with a primal spirit that harbors both destructive and creative power, allowing the druids to create controlled flames that burn away one thing but give life to another.
So they don't necessarily have to be all 'nature is good, ima go hug a tree'. I've played one warlock (celestial) and it was more like I was a contractor, given autonomy and power to fulfill the patron's mission. That doesn't feel like the right vibe for a druid though. It sounds to me like the spirit could be compared to
spren from the Stormlight Archive, where they bond to a person who exhibits qualities they agree with or need to complete themselves.
This is as far as I've gotten with fleshing out my connection with the spirit. I'd like to do so more, to make it more than just a Pokémon that I throw at enemies and port my friends around with. Anyone have any experience with this?
A bond is not a bargain. That’s probably the main difference. A warlock traded something for the power. Whereas the bond is probably willing. Maybe out of respect, friendship or something else. The bond probably doesn’t have requirements outside of “don’t go completely against my nature”.
the bonded creature may not even be aware. The bond itself may be the thing that gives it awareness. Maybe it’s raw destruction like fire with no mind until the bond. Maybe the Druid had to wrestle to control the spirit and forcibly bond it, to show they can manage the power of destruction without being consumed
there are many ways you could play the spirit depending on what you think fits.
