Hi, everyone! I'm working in a series of articles for my blog dedicated to each of the 13 classes, and I plan to finish each one with a short list famous examples of such class in fantasy tropes, be it novels, movies, TV shows, comics or video games.
(Extra XP if you also include some details about the reason for your ideas and what you like or don't like about the class, both as a player or DM)
Having said that, what characters come to your mind when thinking of DRUIDS?
No, Merlin (the historical fella, not a TV/movie version, *if* he actually ever existed) was definitely a druid. Some say the last of the druids. The wizards like to claim him, but he's ours.
Perhaps Allanon of Shannara... though, his is a different style of Druid... but just because he doesn't Wildshape that I recall doesn't mean he doesn't use nature powers in some places.
Merlin is a Wizard... or at least a High Wizard..... What about his sister Morgana ??? she's an obvious Witch or at least, a failed Wizard.
An obvious Druid is the Radagast character from LotR saga.
Another druid character is the Panoramix ( or also know as Getafix ... WTF !! ) character from the The adventures of Asterix book series.
Merlin is a magician. He's been portrayed as a bard, druid, and wizard. Dealer's choice on that one, lol.
He's based on legends about Myrddin Wyllt, and would be a bard from that basis.
That's one of the issues with DnD classes and mythology -- sometimes multiple classes are applicable. Especially with wizards and sorcerers, but bards and druids from some myths have the same issue. Amergin, Merlin, and Taliesin were considered druids and bards.
Layla Williams in Sky High (Movie). Controls plants.
Kinoko Komori in My Hero Academia is A Circle of Spores Druid
Sandman (Neil Gaimon) could have some circle of Dreams levels
Manimal (1983 tV show): Circle of Moon
Beastboy (Titans, Teen Titans, dc comics): Circle of Moon
Jayna from DC Comics (Zan and Jayna from superfriends cartoon in the 80s): Circle of moon
STARMAN (JACK KNIGHT) from Dc Comics: Circle of Stars
Vixen (Legends of tomorrow TV show and dc comics): Circle of Moon
Characters in Roswell new mexico TV show have various powers. Isabel could be circle of dreams (she dreamwalks). I'm sure somebody there hits circle of Stars.
Zhaan from Farscape (and she is actually of a plant-based race). She calls herself a priestess but that can translate as druid since different universes (and this one is scifi, not fantasy) describe things in different ways.
Groot from Guardians of the galaxy (also a plant-based race).
The Ironwood tree in The Hollow animated series (an animated talking magical tree)
Storm from the X-Men. Poison Ivy from Batman/DC comics. Beorn from The Hobbit and Radagast from The Lord of the Rings. Malfurion from Warcraft.
Storm from X-Men is literally a demigod of storms. So she's more like a Sorcerer with a few levels in Tempest Cleric. She has no plant or animal powers whatsoever.

Merlin as a wizard is a more modern take.

Food, Scifi/fantasy, anime, DND 5E and OSR geek.
Swamp Thing
Man Thing would work too.
