I'm starting a new campaign at level 10 and need to select my wild shape options. I know there are so many good (and bad) ones, so I'm hoping you all can help me narrow it down? I'm hoping to make use of multiple forms rather than just rely on one combo over and over. Basically I'd just like 1-2 options each for a few different categories of usage that can cover several different areas, see below. I'm aware of how to combine by spells and wild shapes to make them even better, but any suggestions are welcome.
What I'm looking for: Strength: Some powerhouse forms who can go blow for blow with most enemies Speed: Some mobile forms for outmaneuvering enemies or getting somewhere quick Stealth: Some inconspicuous forms who can scout ahead on par with the rouge Utility: Some forms with unique abilities or simply good options for flight and swimming
I'm mostly thinking about which forms make the most sense? Like for a scouting or stealth option, would you recommend a cat or a rat? Cat has more movement, but rat is smaller (i know they are both tiny sized) and could be even less noticeable in most places. I'm aware of spiders, but I'd rather forget spiders exist... I'm not a bug person.
Or for combat, why pick Killer Whale for +6 to hit vs a Giant Octopus with +5 to hit, but can grapple enemies? And both of those over a Hunting Shark? That's what I'm trying to figure out as there are so many good options I'd love to play, but can't take all of them...
In 5e 2024 you have more options. I went with these for level 2 but I'm not a moon druid (you have better options): axe beak (large, a party member can ride it), giant badger (digging), giant venomous snake (swims, poison, blindsight), giant wolf spider (Darkvision, blindsight, climb speed). Check this by beast and Cr to find creatures for wildshape....like at level 3 (CR1), Brownbear and direwolf.

What kind of druid? Moon druid is going to give much more powerful options than others. Here's a guide: https://rpgbot.net/2024-dnd/classes/druid/wild-shape/
Maybe ask your DM if you can use the new UA Titan Druid, which gives you Titan Form wild shape options :)
Started playing AD&D in the late 70s, took a 40 year hiatus, re-started with 3.5 and 5e in 2023
