Thinking ahead to Level 8 when my Circle of Stars Druid will get a third (and likely final) feat. I took Fey Touched (Misty Step, Gift of Alacrity) as my Level 1 free feat (thanks, DM!). I took Resilient Constitution at Level 4. My Wisdom score is currently at 20. My other ability scores are even numbers and fairly decent ... so I don't think I need an ASI at Level 8. So I've been considering feats that don't provide a +1 ability score bump (which would be wasted). I've narrowed my choices to the following:
Lucky - Would be fun to mix with Cosmic Omen! Impressive dice control! Fits divination theme of Stars Druid.
Wood Elf Magic (if DM allows) - Would be great to have once per day casting of Pass Without Trace and Longstrider (as well as another Druid cantrip)!
Alert - Would be fun to mix with Gift of Alacrity to ensure high initiative!
Mobile - Even more movement (to pair with Misty Step)! And free disengage!
Tough - More HP wouldn't hurt because my Druid (with 18 AC) occasionally helps our Paladin on the frontline.
Any recommendations from personal experience? Anything I'm overlooking?
The usual suspects are the ones you’ve mentioned and War Caster, but of course that is of very limited value to a stars druid — they get much more out of resilient than war caster. You might find limited use out of some of the other WC benefits.
I would suggest tough, maybe even medium armor master, depending on the armor that you are wearing if you are finding survivability an issue. If not, then I’d consider Alert or something that will affect your ability to cast spells. Alert is probably the best for control type characters like druids tend to be. It is a lot easier to place your area spells if PCs and monsters aren’t already jumbled up.
Thanks for the advice, WolfOfTheBees! War Caster could offer a marginal benefit ... but my Constitution saving throw is +6 and I can use Dragon starry form if needed. So perhaps War Caster isn't essential? I don't have a use for Medium Armor Master because I use Pass Without Trace for important stealth missions and I have a +2 Dexterity modifier so I wouldn't be able to boost my AC at all. I like the idea of Alert - seems like I always roll terribly for initiative even with my added Gift of Alacrity 1d8. I agree that you can't go wrong with the HP boost that comes from Tough. But I'm also still considering Lucky (which I've never taken on a character before), Wood Elf Magic (more spells!), and Mobile. It's so difficult to choose!!
I think strictly RAW, Wood elf magic doesn't provide those spells as prepared, which means if you want to cast pass without trace or longstrider more than once per long rest, you might need to see if your DM would let you use slots to cast those spells. Longstrider is only so-so when you have to choose to prepare it, but much better when you just get to cast it once for free.
Lucky is a good defensive option, but with all of those "free" castings of guiding bolt, you might be casting more attack roll spells than the average druid. I don't know that I'd spend luck points on them though.
as a left-field flavour option, crossbow expert would allow you to use your free guiding bolts and stary form arrows without disadvantage when in close proximity to enemies.
I see what you’re going with here, but I’m not sure that it would be the best choice: I think taking an entire feat to help in situations you probably don’t want to be in would be less valuable than just taking a widely applicable feat.
Before Strahd killed my stars druid, I was looking at the UA Gift of the Metallic Dragon. (If your DM allows it.) Free cure wounds and a AC boost reaction.
