I'm playing a Level 3 Circle of the Stars druid in a campaign where we are looking for an ancient artifact which is relevant to my character's backstory. My dm mentioned recently that she realized that no one in the party has the identify spell. The party is an owlin cleric, aasimar rogue, goliath fighter, tiefling ranger, and pallid elf druid (my character). According to Dnd Beyond, my character meets the minimum INT requirements to multiclass to wizard.
My druid's stats: STR 11/ DEX 17/ CON 13/ INT 13/ WIS 16/ CHA 9
Does multiclassing make sense mechanically so my party can access the identify spell? I've been talking about it with my dm but I figured I'd ask here too. Any ideas would be appreciated! :)
You can also take the Ritual Caster (Wizard) feat at 4th lvl to learn Identify (and other rituals as you find them), if that ritual is the only reason to multiclass.
Thank you! I will look into that feat and ask my dm if we are using feats this campaign. I also wanted my druid to get the find familiar spell so it sounds like Ritual Caster would be perfect for my character.
The problem with dipping Wizard is that you're delaying your Druid spell casting progression, as well as your proficiency bonus. You could take the Ritual Caster feat at level 4, though with only 16 Wisdom you really do want to get ASI +2 WIS if you can. This will increase your spell attack bonus, the amount of spells you can prepare, and most importantly your spell save DC.
You can also maybe look at buying a consumable item to identify, such as a scroll. I would talk to the DM about this.
Thank you for your input and your idea about finding an item that could contain the identify spell. I'll ask my dm about it and see what we can come up with.

In Tasha's there is an optional druid feature (wild companion) that allows you to cast find familiar that might be all you need for that
Thank you for the suggestion! I've not too familiar with all the feat options and Fey Touched looks really cool honestly. Misty Step would be helpful too since my character is frequently a ranged fighter and struggles to get to melee fast.
Both the knowledge and forge clerics get identify for free at level one!
I realize a full Druid may be way you are leaning given the discussions, but if you are still looking at other options this would be another option for you!
Never too late for good suggestions, thank you! I want to look into cleric domains more, since I'm only familiar with Light and Grave domains. Thanks again :)

https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/phb/customization-options#ProficiencyBonus
"Your proficiency bonus is always based on your total character level, Character Advancement table in chapter 1, not your level in a particular class. For example, if you are a fighter 3/rogue 2, you have the proficiency bonus of a 5th-level character, which is +3."

Fey Touched is another Feat you could use to get Identify, along with the very handy Misty Step and an opportunity to bump your Wisdom.

IF IT ISN’T TO LATE!!

Delaying Druid spell casting progression definitely hurts if you multi class, to be fair
