If the Awaken spell is cast on an animal with a decent wisdom (owl or wolf, for instance), would that animal develop an alignment? With wisdom and intelligence come awareness. Wouldn’t the animal begin to ponder the world and its place in it? Wouldn’t he/she/it try to make sense of good and evil, order and chaos?
Awakened animals retain their old alignment, which is usually Unaligned. You can see a variety of examples of this in various published modules, such as an awakened elk or rat (from Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage and Waterdeep: Dragon Heist respectively). If you wanted to homebrew this, it's long-standing D&D tradition for very natural creatures to be True Neutral, which you can see an example of in the Giant Owl.
I think there's also an awakened evil Moose somewhere, so it's possible without homebrew.
It's from
Ice winddale rime of the frost maiden.

It's not really homebrew; a DM can choose the alignment of any monster (see Monster Alignment). I'd assume an awakened shrub or whatever starts out neutral, but it could be quickly influenced by the speech and actions of the player(s) who awakened it.
