I'm trying it out in BG3, but was wondering if anyone has played a Druid/Ranger that has a wolf companion and wolf form so both get advantage using pack tactics. I know it is not a power build.
Even as a pure ranger, your wolf has less hp than a 12 con wizard of the same level (with no saving throw proficiencies to boot). And for every level you take that’s not in ranger, your wolf doesn’t get more hp for that lvl, making it *even* more squishy. I suppose it’s not too bad if you don’t mind spending 8 hours replacing your dead wolf companion after most fights, because it’s likely dying in 1-3 hits from CR appropriate threats.
If you want to fight as a wolf, with a wolf, I recommend playing a Druid with conjure animals. Specifically either Moon Druid (so your wolf is strong) or Shepherd Druid (so your summoned wolves are strong).
Or I guess if you really want to have an actual companion wolf instead of summoned ones, you could play the longtooth shifter race and go bite stuff with your beast companion.
