So I've read about how Shepherd Druids are a rare case where CON should likely be prioritized over your spellcasting stat, but is that still the case if our campaign is only sticking to tier one? That means the conjuring/summoning spells won't come online until the very end, and I don't really want a build that will be lackluster for several levels before coming online for only the last few sessions.
Related question: For the build idea I have in mind, is Shepherd the way to go? I want to primarily work as a controller and a buffer, and if I never make an attack roll during the campaign I'm good with that. Alternatively, I have considered Land (likely Coast) as well.
We're going with point buy, and I don't intend to be a front-liner, but rather a buff/controller. I intend to dump STR, and likely DEX as well, in favor of using Shillelagh if I get threatened. Here's the projected stats, including racial modifiers (Firbolg, hence the 9 STR): STR 9 DEX 10 CON 14 INT 12 WIS 16 CHA 14
CHA and INT are RP choices. I'd rather not drop them below at least +1 each, but my current hope is that with Firbolg and Shepherd abilities I can get some useful info from beasts and plants in social interactions (and occasionally humanoids I guess, fine).
Thoughts? Should I be worried about being so low in DEX, since as a buff or controller going early is a major boon? (I am considering Mold Earth as my second cantrip for cover on demand.) Should I pump CON rather than WIS/INT for concentration purposes?
I wouldn't dump DEX, that's your AC and DEX saves are the most common saves to make -- keeping that high helps reduce the number of CON saves you'll need to make. What is your actual final level going to be? Tier 1 ends before you get to 3rd level spells, where the conjure spells start to kick in (I tend to dismiss the new summon spells because a. I don't like them, b. they're expensive), so if you're not going to hit level 5 or higher, CON doesn't matter quite as much, but it's still (always) important. I would swap your DEX and CHA, if you really want CHA for RP pick a CHA skill to get proficiency in from your background.
