What problem are you having with this player? Attitude/behavior or just not a good player?
Problem players should be coached then removed if they are a detriment to the group's fun.
Poor players should be coached and helped to improve so they and the group have more fun.
If you have to remove someone, just present it as factually as possible. Cite the reasons, if they are in a friend group reinforce that you aren't rejecting them as a person just that your group doesn't want to game with them any longer.
Hopefully you can coach the player no matter what the issues are and keep your group together. Happy Holidays!

Ok so I have a player in my dnd group that's not a good player or dm, how can I gently kick him out of the group.
When you say "good player or dm", what do you mean by that? Is he disruptive at the table? Not understanding of the rules? Simply unimaginitive?
