I want to modify the Tavern Brawler feat in the fowling way:
Your unarmed strike adds an additional 1d4 for damage.
I created a magic item that bestows the feat upon the player that attunes to the item. I can create a Homebrew feat to do this but I’m not sure how to make the additional 1d4 get added to their unarmed attack damage.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Just create a weapon that does 1d4+1 damage (since 1 dmg is the normal damage for an unarmed attack - unless they're a monk).
They are a monk. What I'm trying to do is give them an additional 1d4 to their unarmed attack.
Ah I see.
I thought that the Monk's extra Bonus Action attack was provided to compensate for their low base damage.
