The Dragonlance series, and specifically the ones about the War of the Lance. The world of Krynn is kind of silly over-all, but aside from the tone, it's a pretty viable setting and may be published for 5th edition soon. In the mean time, there's tons of information about it online.
I love drow, rogues and Chinese weapons. I mean come on, rope darts are awesome.
My current character is a drow shadow monk, with a "unique" honor code (give him some time, he's working through some stuff). He also sucks on the socialization side of interacting with all other living creatures. which is very fun to RP.
Lords who pretend to be dragons or have heavy dragon influences in their decor and style. Perhaps the society has a sort of religious fervor for dragons, and they believe that the Lords are the closest they can get to the dragons. Maybe some of the lords are also half dragon (like Roguish_Archer mentioned) or are actually dragons in human form.
Question -
When you hear the term "Dragon Lords", in the context of D&D, what do you think about? Like, what pops into your mind?
Do you think of dragons who rule over other dragons?
Do you think of dragons who rule over non-dragons?
Do you think of humans / humanoids who rule over dragons a la the Valyrians / Targaryens from Game of Thrones?
What does the term invoke?
